03.21.13 | i read this article a while back.
anybody who stays inside all day listening to music might be a little depressed yea
but you could say the same about alot of things. |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | I havent seen that simpsons episode in a long time, that audio just made my day. |
DominionMM1
03.21.13 | couldn't find the video of that clip so had to settle for the audio |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Haha, i might just look up the episode. Im sure ints online somwhere. I think its the one where homer is a carnie. |
antigravity
03.21.13 | definitely true in my case |
DominionMM1
03.21.13 | It's the hullabalooza episode where they shoot homer in the stomach with a cannonball |
Kman418
03.21.13 | tbh getting into more music got me out of depression, this article is silly |
antigravity
03.21.13 | it's not really a correlation thing but it makes sense - music has a very powerful influence on your emotions and if you're already feeling kinda bad staying in and listening to depressing music can make you wallow in your own self-pity and it kind of encourages that |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Sweet! I wonder what season its in. |
dammets
03.21.13 | article is right i never even knew i was depressed until jesse lacey told me about it |
antigravity
03.21.13 | lol |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | heh, damn |
Chortles
03.21.13 | title is pretty misleading |
DominionMM1
03.21.13 | "Sweet! I wonder what season its in."
season 7
|
ZilbelPing
03.21.13 | Nope. I love music and I'm not, nor have I ever been, depressed.
That being said, I'm not a teen anymore but when I was ^^^ |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Well season 7 i getting watched. It can be misleading thought the article was interesting/humorous |
Calc
03.21.13 | this wouldn't be off base, nor anything surprising, if the answer was yes. |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Agreed. i really think music history should be required with the taste of this younger generation. |
Sapient.
03.21.13 | I think a lot of teens who are depressed or have been depressed at one point or another go to music as a source for comfort and inspiration(at least that is how I've seen my situation). It helps more than harms |
YetAnotherBrick
03.21.13 | what sixdegrees said basically |
amemento
03.21.13 | listening to kings crossing by elliott smith makes me want to kill myself so excellent research scientists i admire your work |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | It depends really, some teens do use music as an outlet to escape the shitty situations they may have (lack of social interaction, bullying, depression, Family issues). If they listen to a certain type it can aggravate it to make it worse, but the side i hope for is that outlet actually helps them. I have had some friends off themselves , and you would have never known it. Even if you asked them, they would deny anything is wrong. Its a shame to see things like that happen. |
sinisterplague
03.21.13 | I've always listened to more music when depressed than I did read books. There really is no evidence that music plays a causal role in this, unless you're playing Joy Division all of your waking hours.
|
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Yeahhh joy division i could see doing it. I think it would help more, but i can see both sides of it too. |
antigravity
03.21.13 | it IS the ultimate depression album |
Trebor.
03.21.13 | I think it's more that depressed people are drawn to music and not the other way around |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Treb makes a good point. |
antigravity
03.21.13 | pretty much |
Acrosstheshield13
03.21.13 | I'm depressed about most of the shit on this list.. |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Most of this is good regardless. |
CaptainHadouken
03.21.13 | Why am i not surprised. |
tommygun
03.21.13 | hmm |
Dolving999
03.21.13 | I swear to god, teens nowadays have such shitty music tastes... When I was 10 I heard RATM, now kids that age listen to bands like Asking Alexandria or Black Veil Brides. |
Wolfhorde
03.21.13 | Sounds like the logical fallacy of equating correlation and causation. |
ConorIsNotHere
03.21.13 | Considering teens are full of unnescessary angst (me being of no exception), it makes sense. Though:
Treb makes a good point. [2] |
