ApexPredator
12.04.12 | Only bad movie I've seen of his is eyes wide shut |
Atari
12.04.12 | the shining and full metal jacket are great. i'll have to see see 2001 a space odyssey again i saw it years ago but hardly remember it |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | It's his best if ur patient |
SgtPepper
12.04.12 | Yeah I never liked Eyes Wide Shut or Spartacus myself. But A Clockwork Orange and 2001 are my two favourites by him. That final part Jupiter and Beyond The Infinite is such a head trip (especially if you listen to it synched with Pink Floyd's Echoes. |
Sirob
12.04.12 | yndi halda and a good list i approve |
Chewie
12.04.12 | without Barry Lyndon this list is incomplete. For on the continuum of Stanley Kubrick it is a very important piece in really understanding what he did and was trying to do with his movies, furthering his style and grandeur. That's the thing with Kubrick, though, all his movies are landmarks in themselves. Also I disagree with you saying Eyes Wide Shut is bad, what did you not like about it? |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | Dude can you fucking read? I said a ranking of the movies Ive seen |
Chewie
12.04.12 | Well fine but I'm just saying you should see Barry Lyndon cause it brings context to the whole idea of ranking his movies. But yeah Eyes Wide Shut what didn't you like? |
iSkane
12.04.12 | I hated A Clockwork Orange. Not because it was gruesome or anything, but I just really didn't like it very much. The book didn't tickle my fancy either. Full Metal Jacket is 1, but I still haven't seen Dr. Strangelove. |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | He said that was his most accomplished film to date for him personally and when I watched it it just didn't grab me like his other films do I've been meaning to watch Barry tho heard nothing but amazing things. And I can understand someone not like a clockwork orange I don't blame anyone for not liking it lol |
WeepingBanana
12.04.12 | thank you for not ranking A Clockwork Orange at 1 like an idiot |
WeepingBanana
12.04.12 | not calling you an idiot, it's just idiots usually rank ACO as his best |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | Well 2001 has been my favorite movie for YEARS then they made There Will be Blood which ironically the ending and beginning are reversed |
Chewie
12.04.12 | Yeah I definitely raise an eyebrow to him saying that too, but then again what he sees as his "most accomplished" is probably very different from an audience. I think Eyes Wide Shut is rather amazing, though. I love how dreams are such a huge part of it, the whole movie almost moves as one at times, and all of the other things it touches on, marriage, secret societies are brilliant. Umm, in terms of Clockwork Orange it is such a fucking captivating piece of work, my god. One of the most uniquely directed and acted movies I've ever seen, and without it I wouldn't have gotten into Kubrick in such a big way. It's definitely the most nostalgiac of his for me. |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | But it is very strange tho I can see why people don't like it lol I mean I agree Malcolm McDowell is a genius and the things Kubrick used to do to his actors was legendary. Malcolm McDowell broke 2 or 3 ribs and almost went blind from a clockwork orange. Chewie have you seen there will be blood? |
TMobotron
12.04.12 | I think Eyes Wide Shut is underrated as shit. It has such a chilling surreal atmosphere from start to finish which I fucking love it for. |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | Maybe I should watch it again its been a couple years |
MisterTornado
12.04.12 | 2001
Clockwork
Shining
Lyndon
Eyes
Metal Jacket
Strangelove |
TMobotron
12.04.12 | Yeah I mean don't get me wrong it's far from his best, but I do think that the atmosphere (and strong leads) made it great. There are also some really chilling visuals and cinematography throughout that carried it for me even in the weaker parts. |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | Like I said I gotta watch it again I didn't have the knowledge of movies like I do now haha |
Chewie
12.04.12 | Yeah I've seen There Will Be Blood, it's brilliant. Just that scene of the oil rig exploding to a Johnny Greenwood composition, and the whole "I drink YOOOUR milkshake," maasterful. |
ApexPredator
12.04.12 | There will be blood and 2001 are reversed with the beginning and the end in the beginning of 2001 the ape uses the bone to hit the skull in there will be blood he uses a bowling pin in the beginning of there will be blood he's struggling to become something more same thing with 2001 |
808muzik
12.04.12 | Clockwork will always be my one. Paths Of Glory should be mentioned to. |
demigod!
12.04.12 | Haven't seen that many Kubrick films but The Shining is one of my all time favourite movies |
menawati
12.04.12 | what about Lolita ? |
ShadowRemains
12.04.12 | whose the prof pic |
Chewie
12.04.12 | shit, never thought of that Apex, cooool. |
menawati
12.04.12 | when they made Eyes Wide Shut was cruise banging kidman or was it before that, or after ? |
GnFnRs87
12.04.12 | Despite the cliche I still say that Clockwork is 1. I love that movie
2001 and Strangelove are great too
Eyes Wide Shut is underrated as fuck, one of the only movies where Tom Cruise isn't annoying, great performance by him |
newjunkaesthetic93
12.04.12 | Clockwork Orange = Best book and movie ever. |
TMobotron
12.04.12 | @menawati I think he was at the time |
menawati
12.04.12 | ah ok TMobotron it's just that scene at the start where they are arguing in the hotel room is one of the most convincing on screen arguments I've ever seen and i was wondering how much of it was due to Kubrick's direction and how much was natural chemistry due to their off screen relationship. |
Ire
12.04.12 | people who don't like clockwork orange are basically the worst people ever |
menawati
12.04.12 | yea they need a bit of the old ultra-violence |
Ire
12.04.12 | agreed ;3 |
