Atari
08.02.13 | "The new Evil Dead was fantastic"
no lol. It basically replaced the comedy with excessive gore and is just like every other horror movie |
Hyperion1001
08.02.13 | it was a remake of the first evil dead, which wasnt supposed to be a comedy. the comedy only came in in evil dead 2, so thats a completely irrelevant criticism
as for quality, overall it wasnt amazing but the gore was good and the final scene ruled.
as for recs, here are some you might like
The Fog (1980)
The Changeling (1980)
Suspiria (1977)
Videodrome (1983)
Candyman (1992)
Hellraiser (1987)
The Haunting (1963) |
Atari
08.02.13 | meh i was disappointed. And the 2nd one had more comedy but the first one was still fun and campy which the new remake wasn't imo |
menawati
08.02.13 | just watch Versus its a fking crazy mash-up of samurai/zombie/timetravel/horror/guns with some mad plot about 666 portals and a quest to gain the power of darkness |

menawati
08.02.13 | is that the one with the creepy doll ? |

08.02.13 | Yeah, it's the one with the creepy doll but the doll has absolutely nothing to do with the story |
Atari
08.02.13 | i heard it's scary as shit without relying on gore |

08.02.13 | I didn't like Sinister much at all. At times it was engagingly stupid but most of the time it just annoyed me (although I must say that the smash cut to little kid pushing a lawnmower over his parents head made me laugh so hard I fell out of my chair.)
Insidious and The Conjuring however are excellent. James Wan has had that shit down since Dead Silence though. That movie is crazy underrated. I mean it's stupid as hell, as are The Conjuring and Insidious, but it looks great and is spoooooooooky.
Some other horror movies I like:
Resolution (2013) an American indie from this year that's set in an haunted (?) cabin in the woods on an Indian reservation. It's quite a bit better than Cabin In the Woods and I say that as a fan of that film.
The Battery (2013) an American indie made for about $6000 dollars about two ex minor league baseball players who travel across the post-zombie apocalyptic American countryside just trying to survive. The first hour is a comedy/drama character study the last half hour or so is tense as hell.
Nadja (1994) and The Addiction (1995) mid-nineties vampire flicks shot in black and white. That, and that both films are brilliant (also both set in NYC), are about all they have in common.
The Exorcist III (1990) it's better than the first one I swear to god. More overtly religious than the first so that may bother you but there's a scene where George C. Scott and Brad Dourif scream at each other and it's as awesome as it sounds.

08.02.13 | ^agreed. I believe to make the film they spliced together all the episodes filmed for a tv show, so it didnt flow too well. Tim Curry is still awesome in it though. |
