Also, although their not "country" in the traditional sense (progressive bluegrass?), Bela Fleck & The Flecktones deserve a mention too. Amazingly original blend of jazz/bluegrass from some of the most talented virtuoso's alive.

Objectively he may have had a better voice than Billy but the one record of his that people consider truly great was all songs that Billy Joe wrote and sang first and imo he did them better than Waylon ever did.
