| Modern Death Metal Production
While listening to Fallujah's new record I really became annoyed with the
production. The guitars are very thin, and the drums are unbearably
inorganic. It's beginning to feel like the music isn't even being performed
on records, but manufactured more or less. I like Death Metal a bit, but I
can see myself growing off of it with this style of production in modern
times. I like the fact that it is clear, but it seems so sterile and inorganic.
Here are some modern DM records that I think have stellar production. | 1 | | Ulcerate Everything is Fire
The atmosphere on this is pummeling, but more importantly, the instrumentation is
very organic. The drums are lively, and while the performance isn't "loose", it seems
to breathe with emotion, rather than triggered toms and paper-thin double-bass
drums. | 2 | | Gorguts Colored Sands
Much for the same reasons as one. This in an old school approach to modern
technical death metal. Dense guitars that are full of life really help build the aura of
this record. | 3 | | In Vain Ænigma
A much more modern sounding record that manages to keep its production extremely
tight, and fresh. Nothing sounds fake, and while it definitely sounds modern, is very
full of life. | 4 | | Be'lakor Stone's Reach
I would say that this has a lot of similarities with the production of BWP Opeth,
although it is slightly more polished and glistening. Again, while sounding modern,
and by no means "old school" it still breathes and sounds lively. | 5 | | Ne Obliviscaris Portal of I
Progressive DM/BM, which is is tastefully produced in a very modern fashion.
Sometimes, I want it to have a more old school vibe, but the production fits the music,
and is very charming | |

08.23.14 | My favourite modern DM production is probably on the most recent Obliteration album, raw but clear. | Let
08.23.14 | Sweven and Labyrinth Constellation both have excellent production. | Madbutcher3
08.23.14 | Yeah Marston productions are always good | beefshoes
08.23.14 | Check out the demos for #3. They're a lot more raw and organic. | facupm

11.10.14 | I like the production on the latest Cannabis Corpse album. sounds pretty modern in how clear everything is, but you still get the feeling that everything isn't played by soulless androids. |
