| Top Albums Of 1966
Pet Sounds probably could have made this if it wasn't complete trash | 10 | | Cecil Taylor Unit Structures
In the immortal words of Miles Davis: 'This mother fucker can't play shit' | 9 | | Dave Brubeck Time In | 8 | | Joe Henderson Mode for Joe | 7 | | Wayne Shorter Adam's Apple | 6 | | Freddie Hubbard Backlash
Freddie keeps churning out solid albums in his strongest era. | 5 | | Stan Getz What the World Needs Now
I said before that I'm not a huge fan of most of Getz's stuff, which is true, but I'm a sucker for jazz covers of non jazz songs (I'm looking at you Brad Mehldau) | 4 | | Sonny Rollins East Broadway Rundown | 3 | | Hank Mobley Straight No Filter
Another classic Mobley release, I'm sure this one rivals 'A Slice of the Top' for some people as his best effort. | 2 | | Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers Hold On, I'm Comin'
This is such a cool album. Like I said, I'm a sucker for jazz covers of other established songs, and this is full of them. The cover of Secret Agent Man is so slick. | 1 | | Frank Zappa Freak Out!
Coltrane finally dethroned, Frank Zappa takes his place. This is a great piece of parody music that was still actually credible. And not only was it credible, it's absolutely brilliant. Despite that, this isn't in my top 10 Zappa albums, however, it's still great. Zappa does doo-wop better than those that typically play it. | |
