|Steve Harris Happy Hammer|
In celebration of West Ham destroying Tottenham 3-0 yesterday here's a
little tribute to the best bass playing hammer fan in the world.
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - beefs up the sound in harmony with the guitar where it
matters, adds menacing tension at the right spots, then the lulling middle 'becalmed
ocean' section, then drives the finale with that great springy sound he can get - perfect
example of where he supports the song without too much wankery but still adds so much.
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Only the Good Die Young - plenty of classic galloping stuff holding the song together
and love that widdly bit in the middle
Killers - during the build up at the start, so cool with the dianno yaiiiy screams on top
Phantom of the Opera - quality throughout but the little triplet halfway through, he
nicked it from Budgie and it's dead simple but I've always loved it
Innocent Exile - opening bassline, sounds very different to most of his stuff
Powerslave - Harris's melodic basslines during the amazing middle section.
The Number of the Beast
Invaders - i fucking hate the chorus in this song but the bass is brilliant throughout
Wrathchild - epic bass riff owns the song
Transylvania - one of my favorite riffs of all time, bassline is wonderful i really like the
little fills he puts in almost like a lead guitarist would
Murders in the Rue Morgue - the great opening harmonics and melody and then booom
booom booom yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagallopgallop, killers is such an overlooked album and is
up there with their so-called classics
