09.07.14 | Three things:
1. there is a 2 songs per artist limit
2. they are in no order
3. these aren't necessarily the best intros I know, just the ones that really make a unique impression from the very first moment. |

09.07.14 | i used to jam hot fuss like a madman, very good pop album |
KrazyKris
09.07.14 | Actually I think Hot Fuss and the Killers in general are overrated. It has some great tunes, just too many flaws for more than a 3. Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me rule though. |

09.07.14 | List has Kid Rock...list is invalid. |
KrazyKris
09.07.14 | Kid Rock is one of the most embarassing guys in music history, granted. And his music sucks mostly, but he has some ok tunes.
More importantly, this list isn't about the quality of the songs, let alone the artists. If so, I could never include tracks like Girlfriend or Stay Stay Stay, both really difficult. |
NorthernSkylark
09.07.14 | The Killers overrated? i really don't think so. i only really enjoyed their debut tbh |
KrazyKris
09.07.14 | Well, already talked about the debut (good, but only half of the songs survive more than a few spins).
"Sam's Town" is some weird mix of heartland rock and 80's synth, works at times quite well (When You Were Young, Read My Mind), but falls flat too often and I just can't take it serious.
"Day & Age" is overproduced stadium-world-synth-pop-rock that is really more annoying than a fun listen, although I always liked Human, despite it's mind-numbing lyrics.
And I actually thought "Battle Born" was the best since the debut. Sure, as polished as possible, but it seemed more focused and less gimmicky. Nothing too special sonically, yet at least an average record, which the two before weren't really. |

09.07.14 | missing Flaming Metal System |
NorthernSkylark
09.07.14 | i agree with all that, ecxept that i thought battle born was just as bad as day and age. But i really love spaceman tho, it's so light and fun to sing along with.
" are we human or are we dancer" is the most inane line ever, which would be fine it wasn't trying so hard to sound meaningful. |
KrazyKris
09.07.14 | Yeah, Spaceman is cool, a tad bit too long maybe. And about that line, it's Brandon Flowers, what did you expect? |
NorthernSkylark
09.07.14 | Joy Ride is cool too, if you ignore everything but the baseline :D but that's very hard. this is your life starts out well, but soon turns to dust. other than that, day and age is utterly forgetable. true, his songwriting was never very good, but still... |
ArsMoriendi
09.07.14 | "Inca Roads" by The Mothers of Invention comes to mind.
And "Outshined" by Soundgarden. |
KrazyKris
09.08.14 | I think it starts out quite well. Losing Touch works good as the polished arena rock it is supposed to be, even if gets old fast. Joy Ride has that little bit of funky vibe that saves it, that's true.
On the other hand, Neon Tiger is really some of the worst piece of music I know and it sums up the Killers problem: Everything has to be big and cheesy, be meaningful and all in all Flowers biggest flaw is in no way his songwriting, but the fact that he takes himself so damn serious. If he would focus more on writing just some catchy pop tunes like Spaceman or Flesh And Bone they could probably make a pretty nice record. |
