09.22.13 | After getting just three comments on the list I posted yesterday, I thought I might do another one. Think there's a lot in here to disagree with, so let me know what you think. |

09.22.13 | Where's Fat Lip? |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | 50th - Fatlip. Angels With Dirty Faces is definitely my favourite Sum 41 song. I fell in love with those incredibly catchy metallish riffs. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | just behind motivation, on 50 |
joshieboy
09.22.13 | Ahhh ok, didn't see it. Fat Lip should be way higher up imo. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | agreed, Angels With Dirty Faces is #2 on my all-time song list (it can't beat Breaking The Habit). Damn awesome riff and I haven't found a song with lyrics I can relate that much with. Chuck's depressing mood in general seems damn realistic to me. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Way higher is impossible. It could only be in front of Motivation. They aren't all in order but just all songs off of one record in order. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | I am pretty happy to see Noots on 4. If I remember correctly, it was one of the three bonus tracks. Where would you place Moron and Subject To Change ?
|
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Just listening to them on youtube cause I haven't heard them for a long time. Think Moron would be around Open Your Eyes and Subject To Change behind 88. Chuck is just too good in my eyes and except for the fact that it still sounds better than the "remake" Underclass Hero it doesn't sound to special to me. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Underclass Hero was a really weak effort. Remake ? - rather rip off.. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Yeah, well I think it's tolerable but I don't hate the album as a whole (still gave it a 2.5). You can't really call it a rip-off if they just use their own song and even say they do. Still, it surely wasn't one of their high-points |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Well, at least Screaming Bloody Murder turned out to be passable. What about their new record when Steve Jocz is gone ? |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | I'm not too optimistic. Not primarily cause of Stevo's departure but because Derrick said it will be an evolution from SBM and they will add more different instruments. I don't think they are capable of doing that and still sounding good. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | We will see. Also, to your mind, Screaming Bloody Murder is better than All Killer, No Filler ? |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Well, I definitely think the harder, darker sound suits them well. Sure, songs like Time For You To Go or Exit Song are worse than anything on AKNF, but I don't see anything special on AKNF. And SBM has Jessica Kill, We're The Same,... Those tracks are in my eyes clearly better than what you get on their debut. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | It's clear. Metallish riffs and dark atmosphere kept them interesting. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Yeah, everything else was somewhere between blink, Offspring and Green Day and they are the worst of them when it comes to Pop Punk. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Agreed. Sometimes I wonder how would follow-up to Chuck sound if Dave Baksh remained as lead guitarist... |
owen
09.22.13 | I can't stand AKNF and Underclass hero
DTLI?, Chuck and SBM are cool though |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | I don't know if it's really just Dave, or if Avril Lavigne had quite a bad influence on Derrick while they were married. Even if I like her second LP, it doesn't seem like a coincidence that The Best Damn Thing and Underclass Hero came out in the same year. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Maybe, but it was their first material without Dave. By the way, it's pretty funny that Chuck was inspired by both Metallica and Linkin Park. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Sure, without Dave they lost their best musician so it definitely had an impact. I'm not quite sure if he was the one who brought them to making a "Punk Metal" record, but it would make sense.
Yeah, quite funny but who else to choose if you want to make something "metallish". |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Someone also noticed that since departure of Dave, Steve's drumming was reduced to very simplistic thing. |
Millstone
09.22.13 | SBM sucks. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Although drums are quite important to me, I really didn't hear this until now. But yeah, except for King Of Contradiction I haven't found anything that would sound complex in any way (though I can't really judge it, don't play drums myself), still in a song like Jessica Kill the simple drums are all you need. |
theacademy
09.22.13 | horrible ranking for Chuck |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | what would yours look like? |
theacademy
09.22.13 | 88 and no reason on top, pieces lower, all to blame higher, other shit too |
ZippaThaRippa
09.22.13 | Excellent list, the Hell Song is definitely one of my favorite songs off of DTLI. Agree with Count Your Blessings. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | 88 might be their best song musically, I'll give you that, but I just can't listen to it too often, it's kind of difficult I think. No Reason isn't far away from the top spot, though I never thought their political statements were their best moments. Still, all damn good songs. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | ~Excellent list, the Hell Song is definitely one of my favorite songs off of DTLI. Agree with Count Your Blessings.~
Damn, thanks, you don't get a comment like "excellent list" often on sputnik. Yeah, Count Your Last Blessings is the only song on UH that reminds me of Chuck (besides King Of Contradiction of course) |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Count Your Last Blessing sounds like mix of Chuck and All Killer, No Filler. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | musically you're right, but it has the dark Chuck-spirit. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | So Jessica Kill and Blood In My Eyes have. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | totally |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Although Reason To Believe is pretty confusing. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | there's a number of songs on SBM that don't make sense entirely. especially the whole A Dark Road Out Of Hell thing pulls just in too many directions (still sounds good most of the time). Anyway, I think Reason To Believe is quite a good opener. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | It's okay but its epicness can be awkard. |
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | Yeah, the whole LP seems pretty much over the top. That's why it's so far away from being perfect. Most of the ideas are great, but Derrick just tried too hard to do something that sounds big. Definitely inspired by Green Days rock operas. And Derrick manages to sound cooler (Jessica Kill, Blood In My Eyes) and at the same time, for the lack of a better word, much more silly (Exit Song, Time For You To Go) than Billie Joe ever did (don't want to offend any Billie Joe Armstrong fan). |

09.22.13 | "I do Know Half Hour Of Power is missing, haven't listened to it yet and I wouldn't even consider it as a real album."
Half Hour of Power rules so you're dumb |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Agreed. It's propably Derryck's best vocal performance so far. Production is solid too. Unfortunately, album suffers from pretentiousness. |
Trebor.
09.22.13 | "The controversial cover features a man without pants with a machine gun pointed up in the air and is standing in front of an explosion in the background."
Whoever wrote this on the wiki page for Half Hour of Power is no doubt mentally challenged
|
KrazyKris
09.22.13 | ~Unfortunately, album suffers from pretentiousness.~
Oh so right. |
Nudecorated
09.22.13 | Same goes for 30 Seconds To Mars... |
Trebor.
09.22.13 | like it's clearly a dude who was woken from a house fire (hence in his underwear) and he's trying to put it out with a super soaker like fucking duh the band even has super soakers on the back of the album wow I don't think anything dumber has ever been typed in the history of the world |
owen
09.22.13 | I hope someone added that as a joke |
