What do your ratings mean?

Here's what the numerical scores I give normally indicate, and a prime example of such an album. How about you guys?
1Talking Heads
Remain in Light

5.0: Groundbreaking, emotive, stunning in both concept and execution. A world unto itself. The sort of album I'd want to take with me to a desert island. Musical perfection.

Other examples:
Radiohead - Kid A
Mr Bungle - California
Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
2The Beach Boys
Pet Sounds

4.5: An album with that same sparkle of ingenuity and magic to it as a 5, but often coming up short in one or two areas. Some albums are frustrating close to a 5, while others are as flawed as 4, but nevertheless have a special place in my heart.

Other examples:
Radiohead - Amnesiac
Deftones - White Pony
Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
QOTSA - Rated R
Parliament - Mothership Connection
3Blur
Modern Life Is Rubbish

4.0: An impressive album that packs a punch. Though it won't necessarily take my breath away, it is rock solid and consistent, often with a couple serious highlights.

Other examples:
Melvins - Stag
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Sexplosion!
Chelsea Wolfe - Abyss
Faith No More - Sol Invictus
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Nicolas Jaar - Space Is Only Noise
4Battles
Gloss Drop

3.5: An album that I like a whole lot, but must admit is inessential. It might be a lowbrow album punching above its weight, a potential classic that is flawed beyond belief, or simply a solid record. My heart strings, often, will remain firmly unplucked. In the grand scheme of things, these albums don't matter that much.

Other examples:
Agalloch - The Mantle
Atoms For Peace - Amok
Blur - Think Tank
Fuck Buttons - Slow Focus
Mac DeMarco - 2
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Nirvana - Bleach
5Austra
Olympia

3.0: A bruised apple. An album I like, and nothing more. Often has the potential to be great, but lacking polish. It might be woefully inconsistent, or have an element to the music that pervades each song and continually rubs me up the wrong way. I'll likely listen to it more than once, but I cannot help but be in some way frustrated or disappointed when I think about it.

Other examples:
Purity Ring - Shrines
Nirvana - Nevermind
Sleigh Bells - Treats
Deadsy - Commencement
Daft Punk - Human After All
6Justin Timberlake
The 20/20 Experience

2.5: The definition of mediocre. As the rating suggests, I will like and dislike this album in pretty much equal measure. For every good song, there will be a serious dud. For every moment of pleasure, there will be one that makes me cringe. Or it will just be piddlingly average for the entire runtime. Chances are, I will not listen to this album any more than once through. I simply am not given the incentive to do so.

Other examples:
Kings of Leon - Come Around Sundown
Mr. Oizo - The Church
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night
7Muse
The Resistance

2.0: I can safely say a 2 is where the scales of pain and pleasure have tipped in the wrong direction, and resulted in an album I actively disliked. Not unspeakably bad, not without any redeeming features, but there is much too much wrong with it. Tolerable, but leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Other examples:
Frank Zappa - Apostrophe
The Killers - Battle Born
Tycho - Epoch
8Korn
The Path of Totality

1.5: An album where the flaws are so many, that getting through the damn thing is an endurance test. Virtually no pleasure can be derived from it. It might not be the worst album ever recorded, but it's bad. Seriously bad.

Other examples:
KMFDM - WWIII
Muse - The 2nd Law
9Corey Feldman
Angelic 2 The Core

1.0: Offensively, inconceivably bad. An insult to music as a genuine art form. Hurts to listen to. Should not exist.

Other examples:
My Chemical Romance - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Crazy Frog - Crazy Frog Presents Crazy Hits
