10.04.19 | same thing when i first watched, though i think i need to rewatch it.
it was good revisiting the twin peaks universe again, especially seeing andy and lucy and having a good laugh with them, also the dougie jones thing was really nice and one of the best things of the season... but yeah it was rather frustrating sometimes because it kind of missed the original atmosphere. |
JeetJeet
10.04.19 | Its easily the best season of the show |
IndieNoChill
10.04.19 | Even as a pretty big Lynch fan I thought S3 was pretty incoherent, and I didn't really even feel like finishing it |
protokute
10.04.19 | yea, i kinda forced myself finishing while hoping it would be really nice in the end.... but.. well, it was nice coming back to twin peaks after all |
jgrunge107
10.04.19 | I agree, getting through it the first time was a bit of a grind, but it was certainly memorable in some parts |
Assemblage
10.04.19 | Sorta on the other side with this. The first watch through was a bit excruciating in parts but also thrilling at the same time. Not sure if I'd get any extra added value on a rewatch since part of the excitement was not knowing when certain things would show up or come back again. Also felt like 18 full episodes is a little too long. |

10.04.19 | I couldn't do it with season 3, i like Lynchs work but I always appreciated that Twin Peaks could be enjoyed as a semi "normal" show overlayed with Lynchs weirdness and horror. Season 3 went way too far with the abstract and didn't do justice to the characters in my opinion. I did enjoy moments but overall I was disappointed. |
Grimlin
10.05.19 | I just finished my second time through recently, and I did like it a bit more this time. I liked it before, but Lynch can be pretty vague, of course, so it didn't stick with me too well. There are some amazing parts, and a good amount of frustration as well. But really, that's what all three seasons are like for me. Episode 8, "Gotta Light?", was easily my favorite of the season 3. |

10.05.19 | I thought it was fucking amazing tbh |

10.05.19 | best television ever made |

10.05.19 | one of the greatest seasons of any show ever |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.05.19 | yeah season 3 is the best season easily of this show or any other. ive watched it in full 3 times. but understanding it is a fucking battle and a half so i understand the frustration - for me the best part of twin peaks has always been how daunting and always out-of-reach the mythos was. season 3 gave you all the missing pieces you needed to put together everything the show ever did... but only if you were patient/masochistic/focused enough to look for it |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.05.19 | in other words it fucking hurts the brain - but in the best and most rewarding way possible. its the dark souls of tv seasons lol |
DrGonzo1937
10.05.19 | It’s a masterpiece |

10.05.19 | I gleaned quite a bit out of my first 2 watches but I didnt understand the ending as well as I wanted to until the 3rd watch |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.05.19 | Even now it's so complex it's hard to coherently explain it without like refreshing on the last few episodes lol |
JeetJeet
10.05.19 | Its so perfect. Its Lynch unfiltered and unrestrained. Plus the way he added to the lore of the world with episode 8 was incredible. |
MO
10.05.19 | It was a wild ride but a good one for sure. Way less straightforward as the original 2 seasons if that's believable |
DrGonzo1937
10.05.19 | tbf, the first season is as straightforward as it gets. the second season is also straightforward but is marred by iffy writing.
seriously though, the first two seasons of twin peaks are some of my all time faves, but three blows the first two out of the water. very few creators out there that could come back to something like this and better its predecessors.
rip dougie jones |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.05.19 | coop made a new dougie bruh he lives on in spirit |
DrGonzo1937
10.05.19 | yeah, but i always imagined the new dougie as new and improved -- being able to form full sentences and stuff -- so hes not the same imo |

10.05.19 | I think it went a little bit too abstract for my taste
But the family ended up with a Dougie for them and I'm really glad of that |
polyrhythm
10.06.19 | I much prefer the abstract Lodge shit to the cutesy teen soap opera James's forehead whateverness |
Rik VII
10.06.19 | Lynch has the ability to make things "far too weird" in a way that works for me. I enjoy his stuff most when he throws everything out of the window and just lets the creative juices flow to create his own little fucked-up worlds. And yeah, this season was very incoherent in places, but I don't mind that too much if the moments deliver. And they did! One of my favorite television seasons ever and I prefer it over the original, which, while being great, memorable, iconic and having a lot of personality, was also terribly inconsistent. At least this season took what it was and went through with it. It didn't have this behind the scenes conflict of people being at odds regarding how the show should go. |
protokute
10.06.19 | well, the thing that got my attention and made me love the series in the first place was actually the cutesy and sometimes lighthearted soap opera stuff melded with the creepy atmosphere, and the dark fucked up stuff surrounding the killing of Laura Palmer and that whole thing with Bob, and also that beautiful and sometimes erotic soundtrack and moments.. so Lynch going full on abstract with the third season wasn't actually my thing, but hey that is me.
Not that I don't enjoy the more surreal and abstract Lynch works, but that's not what made me love the original two seasons of Twin Peaks. |
Rik VII
10.06.19 | That's perfectly understandable. The original series was close to Blue Velvet stylistically, the new one is closer to Mulholland Drive/Lost Highway (some even compare it to Inland Empire, but I wouldn't go that far). I definitely see why one would find that transition unfitting. (Although said transition happened with Fire Walk With Me 25 years before, so it wasn't really surprising that it'd go down that route) |
Egarran
10.06.19 | Yeah, total fan here.
Any disappointments I have (I need more answers dammit) can be ascribed to me not getting what's going on and I kinda like that.
Ep. 3 is 6/5, also because it gave a lot of answers I believe I understood. |
MrSirLordGentleman
10.06.19 | I prefer the older seasons exactly because of its soap opera style. TP's first two seasons are one of the very few cases I've seen of Magical Realism applied outside of literature. A totally normal and "realistic" settings with undertones of strange and supernatural elements that blend in perfectly well |
Anthracks
10.06.19 | it has some of the greatest ever moments for the series and there are times when I think it's my favorite season. season 1 is a 10/10 and season 3 is a 9/10. lynch reveals, in his own way, the philosophical mission of the series in season 3 so that gives it so much more weight in the canon. it's also the most consistent season. |
polyrhythm
10.06.19 | First Season = 9/10
Second Season, up to and including the reveal of the murderer = 10/10
Second Season's lull before the finale = 5/10
Second Season's finale = 10/10
The Return = 9.5/10 |
polyrhythm
10.06.19 | If S2 maintained its peak quality throughout, it would be the best season. As it stands, The Return is my favourite. 18 episodes compared to 8 in the first season, so much more to love. And as I said earlier, I much prefer the Lodge, the glass box, and the nuclear explosion to Donna and James whispering high schoolisms while standing at their lockers. Fuck outta here |

you and literally no one else. |

10.06.19 | seriously tho lynch had so many returning characters several of the actors had to put off their own damn funerals to come back
what more could you possibly want? also if you really are wondering why donna didn't come back (aside from being the worst character), google recent pictures of her lmao |
MrSirLordGentleman
10.06.19 | don't need to get so defensive potsy
I totally get why it was impossible to bring EVERYONE back and I'm glad that Lynch managed to bring most of them (kudos to the log lady for coming back even on her last days of life). I'm just talking about what would've been the best ideal scenario |

For the first two seasons I alwasy thought she didn't even exist and was just part of Cooper's twisted imagination |
