The energy here is utterly captivating. The production is, and I don't say this lightly, one of the greatest examples of modern sound and mixing put to record. And its sing-a-long value?? Oh man, just listen to the song. I HIGHLY recommend the music video, does a great job of contextualizing the retro instrumentals.

The guitar style changed a bit and is no longer Corganesque. This stays interesting throughout. On paper. So why does this, in practice, have me wanting to throw myself from a 4th story window? At first, I wanted to say inspiration, but that’s too easy. If you look deep enough you can see flashes of inspo in this track, somewhere hiding behind the glee choir in the hook. No, what this track is missing is S T Y L E. No matter how many times the track subverts on itself, everything still features the stylistic equivalent of Post’s Grape Nuts cereal. It’s so bland, so inhuman. Without anything interesting or relatable to latch onto, a track like this almost feels mocking. It’s like fogza said, this song ruins your vibe. And why is that? Because their vibe sucks. [1.7]

If a band is incidentally funny then it's ok, but if it's your main selling point then you need to be funnier. Anyway, I genuinely liked this for about a minute, but then it got a bit repetitive. I get what is singalong about it, but I think it would have been cooler if the second time they run through the chorus, that backing vocal is present the whole way through, and not just on the end line. 3

Their music has always sounded inside out to me. OK, here we go. Chunky bass sound. Mediocre vocal. Yeah, they still don't do anything for me. 2.2 Say Ars, I see you're clearly a fan of these guys - you've rated most of their albums pretty high. Have you ever listened to Babe the Blue Ox? You might like them as well. I find them a little more palatable than Primus, because they occasionally stray into something a little more melodic. But they also play a lot of stuff in that sort of inside-out style, and although they were sort of contemporaries of Primus, I always thought they were influenced by them. You might want to give them a shot.

This ended up sound surprisingly proggy to me, and somehow both dated to the late 80s early 90s kind of alternative rock sound and also really fresh and unique. Really pleasantly surprised, and I want to get into more of their discography, but this track might not have the most staying power. 4/5 Leave the Door Open is a really tasty track and I usually have zero interest in this kind of thing. Production is impeccable and Bruno Mars is at his absolute best here doing his motown revival thing. Definitely going into my summer rotation. 4.2/5

Well, boring pop is better than terrible pop, but why not good pop? It's Uptown Funk all over again. 3/5 "Black and White" Very 60s influenced despite being from the 80s. Although it sounds like it belongs on a Hard Day's Night, there are some musical decisions that are too modern for that. Like a weird 80s/pre-Rubber Soul Beatles hybrid. Simple and fun. 3.7/5

Summer Cannibals - this is a great song, and also seems super fun to sing along to! Definitely one of my favorites on this list. It also sounds like a summer song too - like the theme is Halloween-ish but it definitely suits the summer season and weather. A summer horror! :3 [4.8] 16. Party Out of Bounds - Oooh very retro! There’s hardly any vocals in this but would be really fun to sing with a group of friends. Solo karaoke wise though this would be weird. Actually this could be a fun duet too. My dad listened to lots of classic rock shows on the radio and Golden Brown was commonly played, I've heard it probably over a hundred times without seeking it out.
