05.05.12 | 80s music did suck for the most part. It was the start of MTV so popular music was playing towards that, which dawned the whole post punk/hair metal/synthpop stuff that sounds so out of date now.
Metal, Hardcore/Punk, and the beginnings of Alternative were cool though. The 90s were much better in its variety to me, but Im biased too. |

05.05.12 | For 80s rock some U2, Pixies, Primus, Janes Addiction, Guns N Roses, Van Halen, Faith No More, Butthole Surfers, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Melvins, Spacemen 3, Dinosaur Jr, Big Black, Meat Puppets, etc. Then you got thrash like The Big 4 & Co. and heavy metal like Maiden, Priest, Dio, Scorpions.. The beginnings of Death metal and Grind. Then hardcore/punk like Minutemen, Fugazi, Husker Du, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Descendents, Bad Religion, Misfits, Minor Threat, etc.
Theres alot of good 80s stuff. The variety isnt that great but its there. |

add the beginnings of prog metal through bands such as fates warning, queensryche and voivod, plus more tech stff such as athiest etc etc and suddenly there's plenty to keep you busy |

05.05.12 | Also Hip Hop was getting its feet wet too. If you like Beastie Boys (REST IN FUCKIN PEACE MCA) then De La Soul, Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, KRS One, NWA, Kool G Rap, etc. Obviously Hip Hop really started to take off in the early 90s its still cool to hear the 80s stuff.
The 80s were def weird though. It seems like alot of genres/subgenres were just getting started that didnt really solidify themselves until later on. |
