Rec me modern albums

I have a problem with only liking things as they age, I have a hard time liking things that are new. So I want to broaden my horizons and check out some new stuff from the last couple of years, I've heard almost nothing tbh. Rules are as follows:
1B2ST
Fiction and Fact

#1. For now I’m only taking 15 spots

So don't rec a million things. I want to make sure that I will listen to them all and give them full attention and not bite off more than I can chew. I’m still doing my rock ’n’ roll list so I still have a lot to listen to and I don’t want to take recs and not get to them.
2The Hooters
Nervous Night

#2. Album/ep/demo/comp has to be from 2018 or 2017
3Big John Hall
Mr. Bass

#3. No trap/soundcloud rap, there is no chance of me liking it.
4Royal Jelly
Queen

1. 4/5 The mixing is not very good and the whole album has a very digital artificial sound to it. It clocks in at a whopping 17 minutes, mostly because of the 10 min closer. Still I can’t help but love this. I love music that is creative, bizarre, and dares to do things that haven’t been done. The drums are kind of like being shot in the head with a machine gun. This borders on harsh noise with lots of gurgling wiggly wet sounds everywhere, which is wonderful. The guitars are ridiculously oversaturated to the point of sounding like static. I reallly like the album cover, theme, and overall aesthetic. Bees are awesome! The first four tracks are fast and hard, and the last track is a looming ambient piece with lots of cute animal noises. The ambient track is on repeat, it really sets the mood on a sunny day like today, I have bees buzzing in my garden happily collecting pollen. Grind is my fav genre and anything that gets this dirty will win my heart.

2. 3.5/5 I actually dig this more than I was expecting. I listened to this while cleaning out part of my garage, which was were I put all of my old computer parts and cables that I needed to sort through and toss. This was the perfect thing to listen to while I was going through old pc parts, throwing out gateway start up discs and keeping obscure mixtape cds. This has a nostalgic but not dated electronic style. The electronics are warm and welcoming like a sunny beach, it’s interesting how much feeling they evoke with such minimalist structure. The piano ballads are nice too. I really enjoy the atmosphere and all the tones and textures are quite pleasant. Nothing is too striking, but it still had more of an impact on me than I anticipated.

6Anna von Hausswolff
Dead Magic

3. 2.5/5 This album isn’t for me. That’s not to say that it’s bad by means, I just don’t really enjoy it. Anna has a pretty good voice, but I find her intolerable on The Mysterious Vanishing. I appreciate that she’s confident enough to take her vocals that far but I find it irritating. I love harsh or daring female vocals, that’s why I love the album Anguished-Cold so much. But the yelping here, idk. The instrumentals are pretty but very meandering, they never really take it to a place where to music feels like it’s going somewhere. They’re very open and spacey. It’s kinda like a still pool of water that gets sloshed every now and then, and I’m left wanting a river. Her vocals on Ugly and Vengeful are nice, but still the song goes nowhere and I’m left waiting for it to get going. Same with the last song. Perhaps I’m missing the point all together, or maybe I’ll come around to it. I feel like most of sput will dig it hard though.

Wild Notion

4. 3.5/5 This has a modern poppy/indie pop sound. It *almost* gets a little gazey at times, but it’s never abrasive enough to take it there. The guitars and drums go hard. There’s no noodling, it’s mostly melodic chords. I much prefer the female vox to the male, her vox are really sweet. The vox on Night Alive kinda bring it down. Stuff like this can piss me off if it’s too hipsterish, vapid, or trying too hard to be cool but this has some heart and I’m letting myself be open to it. The melodies glide along very smoothly. Decent vibes. Not edgy needs harsh breakdowns. Lol nah it’s fun, certainly not attempting to push boundaries but they’re doing it well. At shows I bet the audience all wears floral print and slowly sways around with their head down. The melodies remind me of the Lost in Translation soundtrack, that's a big compliment. They also make me think of Wild Nothing. All the songs sound similar but they're warm, comfy, and inviting.

8Molly Burch
Please Be Mine

5. 3.5/5 Molly has a pleasant and somewhat deep voice. It makes me think of female singer songwriters of the 70’s, which is great. The album is very retro in style and doesn’t throw in random electronic tracks, it’s traditional but still very modern sounding. Her vocals are a mixture of the whole washed out Americana sound that I think is popular these days, and singer songwriter stuff. The songs are fairly simple and they don’t do anything too wild, new, or exciting. That being said, this is quite nice. Stuff like this can often irritate me by being too simple and lazy sounding, but this is pretty chill. It could use a little more spice, like some horns or something. The guitars have a pretty decent tone and I appreciate how classic they are. The band is good, could use some soloing. I’m thankful that this album has class and doesn’t have millennial whoops all over the place. It gives me lots of faith in modern stuff of this style.

6. 4/5 This greatly exceeded my expectations. Great Opening track. The horns and electronics add so much. All the instrumentals are creative and fun. The drums and guitars have a great up tempo rhythm to them. The Vocals are decent. Overall excellent album that will definitely get more replays to dig deeper into the sounds going on.

9. 4/5 Another bandcamp masterpiece. I love the feeling this evokes. It’s like a dark folk album with slight bm elements. It has a ritualistic campfire kind of vibe. The warbling cassette type sound with demonic voices/chants and creepy plucks and bells is pretty relaxing actually. Makes me want to dawn black robes and go into the forest at night. This isn’t catchy music by any means, but rather it sets a mood and has a strong aesthetic. The album cover is pretty nice. Production isn’t great but it doesn’t really matter. There is great variety in sounds and instruments. Even when it goes into full blast beat mode it somehow doesn’t really sound like metal. It’s harsh folk I guess lol, very interesting. This will definitely be played at some point in a nature setting to get the full effect. The second half of the album isn’t as interesting as Tragedy of Birth, but still good.
