| 5's of mine that sput sleeps on | 1 | | Christoph De Babalon If You're Into It, I'm Out Of It
drum n bass. This is perhaps my favorite modern electronic album. It's dark and brooding drum and bass with a very eerie and powerful vibe to it. Christoph blew the competition away so hard with this record that it's perhaps forever designated to being a looming monster in the corner that we just don't talk about.
Favorite track - Water | 2 | | Confuse Nuclear Addicts
punk. This is my favorite punk album, it's everything I want out of punk and more. Catchy, spastic, memorable, very raw, it's just perfect imo. Perhaps the best Japanese band ever, they're punk gods that will live on forever.
Favorite track - Hate (Is It War?) | 3 | | Confuse Stupid Life
punk. My other favorite punk album. It's still quite raw, but much more bouncy than Nuclear Addicts. Something about this band is just addicting to me. They're still as catchy as ever.
Favorite track - Stupid Life | 4 | | Dayglo Abortions Feed Us A Fetus
punk. The best punk album to come out of Canada. This is quintessential down to every last bass note, it just has that right vibe that you don't hear anymore. It's stupid in-your-face silly filthy fun that takes shots at everything.
Favorite track - Don't have a fav on this one, I just listen to it all | 5 | | Dick Hyman Moog - The Electric Eclectics Of Dick Hyman
electronic. Some very early electronic moog music that will take your mind into hyperspace, a must listen for any synth fan. Moogs have such a pleasing sound, and this is one of the best moog albums.
Favorite track - The Minotaur | 6 | | Electro Hippies Play Fast Or Die
fast hardcore / grind. Early grindcore and one of the greatest ever. Love the album art on this. Sick dirty riffs and vocals. I really like the vocal style.
Favorite track - Acid Rain | 7 | | Extreme Noise Terror The Peel Sessions '87 - '90
grind. This is probably the best peel session I've heard yet. They nailed every track. MURDER!!
Favorite track - Murder | 8 | | G.I.S.M. M.A.N. (Military Affairs Neurotic)
idk. I'm not sure how to describe this album. It's a mixture of hardcore, thrash, and metal. Really great guitars, fascinating vocals, and just very interesting songs in general. This is truly a one-of-a-kind gem from Japan.
Favorite track - Frozen Dirt | 9 | | Gryphon Gryphon
medieval prog. This is honestly a contender for my favorite album ever. The album art is 10/10. Every performance on every instrument is just a godsend. The Crumhorn, recorder, percussion, it's all mind blowing. I can't properly explain how much I adore 'Estampie'. There's nothing else out there like this and I'm just thankful that it exists.
Favorite track - Estampie | 10 | | Issa Bagayogo Tassoumakan
world. I've put this in several lists before but it still only has my 5 and a 5 from potsy. Will you add to the 5 party? This album is the best thing I've heard from Africa. The mixture of folk, western stuff, and electronic is just flawless and timeless. This has held a special place in my heart for 14 years now although I have no idea what he's saying. Please try it.
Favorite track - Koroto, but Kalan Nege has come up in recent years as my other favorite | 11 | | Masayoshi Takanaka An Insatiable High
jazz. Some of the tightest, funkiest groovy jazz I've heard from Japan. Masayoshi is a jazz guitarist. It's hard to not dance with this on. It's so damn funky.
Favorite track - Sexy Dance | 12 | | Malignant Eternal Tarnet
black metal w/ some keys. I've had this in my lists before as well. One of the best bm albums ever and it only has 8 votes. Also, this has the best album cover of any bm album.
Favorite track - Into Twilight | 13 | | Oingo Boingo Demo EP
new wave / post punk. This might be my favorite demo. If you know the band, you know what to expect. This is some of their best work by far.
Favorite track - Ain't This the Life | 14 | | T-Connection Magic
disco / funk. This is my favorite disco album, and it lives up to the name 'Magic'. All tight grooves for the soul. This is a classic and it only has my vote, it's a shame. This is their first album, their other stuff is good too.
Favorite track - Disco Magic | 15 | | Teddy Pendergrass TP
soul. Wow, this still only has my vote. What a crying shame. This is my favorite soul album. 'Love TKO' is one of the best songs ever sung, it hits so hard within the first few seconds. You might recognize Love TKO from the radio, and it's been sampled before. ' I Just Called To Say' is heartbreaking. Every song sets the standard of quality for soul.
Favorite track - I Just Called To Say | 16 | | The Peanut Butter Conspiracy The Peanut Butter Conspiracy Is Spreading
psychedelic. Perhaps my favorite 60's psych album, but it's really hard to choose one. These guys were from my general area. They have a perfect sound in every aspect, the instruments and vocals are an inspiration.
Favorite track - Twice is Life | 17 | | Tom Dissevelt and Kid Baltan Song Of The Second Moon
electronic. Without a doubt this will always reign king as the greatest electronic music ever made, never to be dethroned. This is some of the first electronic music, it's pure science and still fucking scary tbh.
Favorite track - Song Of The Second Moon or Moon Maid | 18 | | Tom Dissevelt and Kid Baltan The Fascinating World Of Electronic Music
electronic. A comp of the earliest electronic music ever made, and it's still unmatched to this day in terms of innovation and sonic ingenuity. This makes modern electronic music sound like safe boring trash, it's still ahead of its time.
Favorite track - Too hard to pick | 19 | | Kaleidoscope (UK) Tangerine Dream
psychedelic. This actually has a decent amount of votes at 30, but I still decided to include it because it deserves thousands. This is one of the best albums of the 60's and is another contender for my fav psych album. The guitar tone is just glorious, as are the vocal harmonies. I'm not sure why this album doesn't come up more.
Favorite Song - Dive into Yesterday (this song gives me chills every time) | 20 | | Cristina Sleep It Off
no wave. A quirky, unique masterpiece of post punk, pop, new wave, post punk, no wave and more. This lovely album is an oddity that was probably a bit too creative to catch on with the general public at the time.
Favorite Track - What's A Girl To Do or Don't Mutilate My Mink | 21 | | Rose McDowall Cut With The Cake Knife
synth pop / goth / post-punk. Do you like Strawberry Switchblade? Then you should check this out. It's on par with her Switchblade work. There isn't a slight shoegaze element like with Switchblade, but it still has a very similar sound. A little more Madonna-ish pop at times, but better.
Favorite Track - Tibet or Sixty Cowboys | 22 | | Jun Togawa Tamahime-sama
pop / goth / synth pop / new wave. This is probably Jun Togawa's best work, and one of the best Japanese pop albums ever made. It's creepy and unique, and the music and lyrics are very dark and bizarre. It's so odd that this doesn't get more love. If you're into oddballs like Shiina Ringo, you would most likely dig this. It's a very creative album with fantastic vocals, and produced by Jun herself.
Favorite Track - 怒濤の恋愛
If you like this I would recommend another one of my 5's that has no votes, her sister Kyoko Togawa - Tears. Kyoko has lighter, catchy synth pop / new wave music, but a much darker personal story. | |

04.16.18 | thank you! | Chortles
04.16.18 | nice list fox, i shall. gonna listen to 1 right now actually | foxblood
04.16.18 | Cool right on chortles. It's a masterpiece imo, it has such a dark and foreboding atmosphere that is like nothing else. It just has this specific vibe that is hard to explain. It's another one that would still be ahead of its time if it came out today. | Chortles
04.16.18 | yaa cool cool. dnb is not typically my bag but i do like the darker/atmospheric side of the genre | foxblood
04.16.18 | A lot of the album is ambient and it will all culminate into dnb break moments like 'no step'. it's not purely dnb which I think is a good thing, because that would get old after a whole album length. The ambient parts make me think of concrete buildings and urban decay in the future for some reason. | SandwichBubble
04.16.18 | Bangin | theBoneyKing
04.16.18 | Hmm none of these seem my thing so I’ll keep sleeping on them I guess | foxblood
04.16.18 | def not for everyone but I feel like 11 and 15 can be enjoyed by anyone | UpwardSpiral

04.17.18 | Interested in 10 | Gyromania
04.17.18 | Haven't heard or even heard of a single one of these damn | Casavir
04.17.18 | Aaay, Kaleidoscope's great. | Keyblade
04.17.18 | need to peep 14 and 21 damn | Papa Universe
04.17.18 | listened to Rose McDowall (was hoping for the post-punk tag to have some value)... not really my thing, but at least it's sweet | hal1ax
04.17.18 | gonna peep 6 | foxblood
04.17.18 | Hm it's interesting that you rated Rose's solo album higher than the Strawberry Switchblade album though, the Switchblade one is wayy more popular and well known. it's not really post-punk, but it's still an offshoot of it in an indirect way imo. I'll add a synth-pop tag to it.
yeah key peep those and also 11, or at least Sexy Dance to see if you groove with it
cool hal1ax i didn't know you had interest in fast hardcore/grind stufff. I see that you also recently rated the Christoph album, glad you liked it | Papa Universe
04.17.18 | it's a synthwave at its most clichéd and tacky to me. that solo album might just go lower for me, but I'm not risking another listen, honestly... | foxblood
04.17.18 | i'm definitely a sucker for all that synthwave stuff, like New Scientists - Pictures Of Reality. It is a bit cliche, but at the same time I don't know of any albums that are like those two that do it as well. | tacos n stuff
04.17.18 | 1 is the bomb, will check the rest | TheBarber
04.17.18 | Litteraly pirated all 21 of these just cuz I trust u | foxblood
04.18.18 | awesome guys, hope you get some enjoyment out of these. thanks barber | TheBarber
04.18.18 | A pleasure, I basically relived 11's artwork today but in britanny's sun it was the tits | foxblood
04.18.18 | it's a great cover. dang that sounds great, I'm sure it's pretty. I've never been outside the states. | foxblood
04.18.18 | Glad you like it! np | GmemberKills
04.18.18 | finally a list with 5s i mostly haven't seen before
20 is def a 5 & it blows my mind that she is still mostly unknown even today
really wanna check 1 & 13 on here | foxblood
04.18.18 | yeah, it's bullshit that Grace Jones - Slave To The Rhythm ripped 20's cover off hard and it's much more well known, Cristina is better. Grace Jones isn't bad though. yeah check them dude, that's my fav Oingo Boingo right there. | pizzamachine
04.19.18 | I sleep on my bed | ZackSh33
04.19.18 | 19 is super underrated, great choice. | foxblood
04.19.18 | definitely, that album blows me away every time I listen to it. I really want the vinyl but it's pricey. the original mono release goes for $1,500!! all the re-releases go from $50-$100 and are pretty uncommon. And supposedly the re-releases are source pressed from a digital master, not from the original master tapes:/ it sucks. extremely underrated album though, it's a very special moment in music that won't come again. | foxblood
04.19.18 | added Jun Togawa - Tamahime-sama (戸川純 - 玉姫様) so that hopefully gets more love as well | Sabrutin
04.19.18 | 8, 9, 18, 19, 21 intrigue me the most. Great list, will check sooner or later | owen
04.22.18 | SoniCRIME Therapy > | foxblood
