Personal Connection and the Love of Music

For me, personal connection is what makes something that is just sounds on a record become something rthat you grow to love and respect. Maybe post some stuff you personally connect to or helped you through rsome personal shit?
1The Gaslight Anthem
Get Hurt

While 'The 59 Sound' is still their best album musically, the band's latest is arguably their
most personal and yet their most uneven. But isn't that the point of personality? That we are
uneven. If I had the time, I'd write a review based on this. But I loved this album and while it
may not 'objectively' be any good, nor the best of the year musically, lyrically or by any other
means. But personally, Fallon's words spoke to me and reflected how I feel ... Isn't that what
music is for?
2 Guns N' Roses
Chinese Democracy

More down to timing than anything else .... This came out during a very trying period of my
life and the lyrics spoke to me .... Whilst technically a mess of an album, there's something
about Axl Rose's emotional, personal, artistical (is that a word) struggles that I felt at the
time .... Is it a fantastic album? No .. Is it a document of one man's feelings in the face of a
world that would rather he disappear? ... Yes. And I empathise with that
3Bon Iver
For Emma, Forever Ago

Helped me through one of the worst times of my life. Every night when I struggled to sleep,
I'd slip this on, cry and heal myself
4Bruce Springsteen
Born to Run

I have a tattoo relating to this (no it's not the album cover). It quite simply is an
encouragement to get out there and be all you can be, whatever that is. I write stories, songs
and I sing. I hope this is what I can be.
5Iron Maiden
Rock in Rio

My best friend of 8 years (I'm 20) introduced me to these. he's stood by me through thick and
thin, through shit and shine and these are his favourite band and the album I got him for
Christmas
6Fleetwood Mac
Rumours

The very nature of the creation of this album lends itself to relationship disputes. Mine was
rather messy and so naturally I turned to this. The ultimate document of relationship hurt and
the most beautiful way of saying 'fuck you' whilst retaining a love for that person that made
you feel so happy.
7Steel Panther
Feel the Steel

As weird as it may sound, this is one of the albums that me and my first love bonded over.
Therefore it will always have a special place with me. I got tickets to see them for her
birthday present, she loved it. She's long gone now but I still have the music and the
memories
8 The Gaslight Anthem
The 59 Sound

A few different memories. The title track evokes memories of losing grandparents too soon.
To see those that helped raise you succumb to Father Time is difficult, this album not only
helped with empathy, but helped with catharsis and recovery
9Black Sabbath
Paranoid

Not only do I credit 'Iron Man' for getting me slowly into metal, I saw their reunion gig at
Download 2012 and it was among the greatest shows I've ever seen ... A classic band that I
never thought I'd see, at my first festival and providing a moment I'll never forget
10Motley Crue
Shout at the Devil

The first concert I attended was Crue and Def Leppard back in 2011 and it was awesome, as
much as this site loves underground and death metal and black metal and all forms of hipster
stuff (and that's fine) sometimes simple fun provides the best nights. I loved my first gig and
I still love the memory
