Stranger Vs. Simple Things

Simple Things is a one day festival in Bristol, which this year occupied Colston Hall (+ subrooms), abandoned prison cells, courtrooms and a fire station. It was pretty fucking awesome, but 13 hours of dancing does not healthy body make.
1Nicolas Jaar
Space is Only Noise

The headline act is the only one I missed out on - there were just too many people trying to get in and security started getting pretty antsy. Got shoved to the back of the queue so left for djrum - not all bad then. I hear Jaar was pretty on point.
2Modeselektor
Hello Mom!

Sadly Apparat wasn't able to make it so I couldn't get murky to Therapy, but it's hard to complain really.
3Pantha Du Prince
Black Noise

A change of tone from most of the night: not so much dancing as gawping on my end.
4These New Puritans
Field of Reeds

Expectedly brilliant, and made even better by the fact they stuck mostly to the new album, which is roughly 60 times better than the old one.
5Jon Hopkins
Immunity

Absolute show stealer. I never really got too into the new album but after the show my opinion has changed on him hugely. Really talented guy with a fantastic sense of build-up.
6u-ziq
Lunatic Harness

A surprise act, but I was really disappointed to see him stick too close to Chewed Corners, which just wasn't an appropriate album to play at around the time everyone's drugs started to kick in. Nice to see him, in any case, I just wish he wacked out the old crazy stuff.
7Dopplereffekt
Tetrahymena

Didn't see too much of them but had a great time.
8 The Field
Cupid's Head

Very appreciated in the wee hours of the morning.
9Darkstar (UK)
News From Nowhere

To be honest with you, I hardly remember a thing from their set apart from the strong notion that I really, really need to get hold of some of their releases.
10Letherette
Letherette

They played far too early in the day, but still impressed. These two released the most overlooked dance album of the year too, so check it out.
11Benjamin Damage
Heliosphere

His set was a lot better than the recent LP would have you guess.
12djrum
Mountains

Definitely up there with Jon Hopkins with a very unique, heavy set which he seemed incredibly comfortable with for a guy who's music tranquilises me.
13Ital
Hive Mind

Ital played two sets: the first not so good and the second a lot better. I've never been too much of a fan so it was nice to see him begin to win me over.
14iTAL tEK
Midnight Colour

Very heavy, very intense and very crowded despite the venue only being about half full. Everyone just seemed to cluster towards the music like moths to a satisfyingly bassy light.
15Vessels
Helioscope

Still killing it.
