I recently revisited R.E.M.'s catalog. Here's my honest ranking of it. Expect some upsets. I don't agree with the order in which these albums are often ranked. | | 15 |  | R.E.M.

Up

Collapse Into Now

Out of Time
A good pop album with some great tracks but the second half, with the exception of Country Feedback, doesn't really do much for me. | | 9 |  | R.E.M.
Document
Starts strong but quickly heads downhill. This album aged the poorest in their catalog. | | 8 |  | R.E.M.
Monster
Misunderstood, yet quite good. Fortunately, it gets more love today than on release. I consider everything going forward on this list to be very good+, Monster included. | | 7 |  | R.E.M.
Fables of the Reconstruction
Regarded by many as the least good of their I.R.S. releases. You know by now that I disagree. This is the closest R.E.M. get, tonally, to The Cure. I'm in! | | 6 |  | R.E.M.
Automatic for the People
I won’t rank it higher because I’m supposed to. It’s a very good album, but I don’t agree with its classic status. Maybe that’ll change one day but for now, I even considered dropping it a spot. | | 5 |  | R.E.M.
New Adventures in Hi-Fi
It's their longest album, and towards the end, it absolutely feels like it. For the most part though, this is an excellent album. | | 4 |  | R.E.M.
Green
Admittedly, this is more of a personal favourite. I find it to be one their most complete bodies of work but can totally see why many feel it isn't an important entry to their catalog. | | 3 |  | R.E.M.
Lifes Rich Pageant
More of the great I.R.S. stuff and often sounds like their most punk album, with the exception of a few songs. | | 2 |  | R.E.M.
Murmur

Reckoning is very overrated in my opinion. It has at least 4 tracks I don't care about at all, that's almost half.
