| AFI - The Blood Album Ranked
Well, I gotta rank Missing Man soon obviously so now it's time to try this again. | 14 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
White Offerings - this song will forever feel like it's missing a good hook to knot it all together. It's a shame because it has so much promise. It's also kinda awkwardly placed near the end of the album. Also just imagine if Davey screamed for this one. | 13 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Above The Bridge - This song isn't a bad song on it's own but it follows Get Hurt which is kinda the slightly better version of this track. It also features one of Davey's worst choruses of all time. Easily one of the biggest slogs on the album that probably should have just been cut. Some nice instrumental work though. | 12 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Snow Cats - I think this is one of Davey's most awkward deliveries (especially considering the lyrics) and that's unfortunate because the song itself is pretty good. I was really hyped for it around when previews were coming out for it and I liked it for quite a while but it's grown kinda stale on me. | 11 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Get Hurt - This song is pretty solid with a great solo but ugh it's pretty boring vocally. A fun little jam but nothing beyond that. | 10 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Feed From The Floor - I think they should have went softer with this one. We haven't gotten a true AFI ballad in some time and I feel like this could have been it. I still like this one quite a bit though. The 80's sounding anthem like chorus is probably something they've been dying to have on an album. | 9 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Aurelia - This track builds really nicely and they killed it live all 3 times I've seen em. Like most of this album, it feels a little too short for what it is but I still think they accomplished quite a bit with this. | 8 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Hidden Knives - Jade rips this song up hard and the chorus is pretty catchy pop punk stuff and I like it quite a bit. It doesn't sound too far from something like The Killing Lights on DU and that's a compliment of course. | 7 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
The Wind That Carries Me Away - I applaud the boys with this one for doing something very different for them. The bluesy verse transitions into a pretty strong chorus and I appreciate that for a closer. I think they kinda lose me in the bridge which is...decent when it could have been much bigger. | 6 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
So Beneath You - tied with Dumb Kids - These two songs are just such fun alt-punk and I enjoy both of them equally. Whether it be the Very Proud of Ya sounding intro of So Beneath You or the fun as hell gang vocals in the chorus of Dumb Kids, both of these tracks are fun as hell. The bridge for each of them is incredible. | 5 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Dumb Kids - see above | 4 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Pink Eyes - One of the most unique sounding AFI tracks. The groovy bassline in the verse is smooth as hell and the raspy chorus is phenomenal. I think every track from here up is pretty outstanding. | 3 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
Still a Stranger - This song wrecked me the first time I heard it. It was the perfect sounding AFI track combining elements from good ol STS with something I haven't heard from them before. I was just so hyped on it as I was the rest of the album. Unfortunately the hype ended up dying down for the latter but this song is still held in very high regard. Hell, I'd show this one to someone to introduce them to the band, it's that good. A rare use of acoustic guitar complimented with this catchy subdued verse that culminated into a classic sounding AFI chorus. Also I'm glad this bridge is where Davey decided to go in on this album. Definitely a highlight on not only the album but their discography as a whole. | 2 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
alright, I have no idea how to rank the top two so here's what I'm currently feeling but they are pretty interchangeable.
Dark Snow - upon first hearing Dark Snow, I didn't really know what to think. It was Still a Stranger that really pulled me into what is Blood, but this track just felt...different. I guess being different is why I like it so much now. The chorus has this interesting hook that isn't the most immediately catchy thing but it grew on me immensely. The keys might really be what makes this track. They compliment everything else so well. This track feels special and I'm really glad AFI is still finding ways to surprise me. | 1 | | AFI AFI (The Blood Album)
She Speaks The Language - This is prime AFI right here. Easily the closest sounding thing post-Crash Love to anything on STS or DU. It has this dark, mystifying atmosphere that I oh so appreciate it. The chorus may not be the biggest sounding thing but it sounds so fitting especially with Adam's hi hat groove, giving it an almost chant-like effect. And the bridge is easily one of the coolest things they've ever done and the way it all flows into each other in the last chorus (especially with Hunter's bass feature) feels massive. A must listen for all STS era fans. | |

B: Aurelia, Feed From The Floor, Get Hurt, Snow Cats
C+: Above The Bridge
C-: White Offerings | artiswar
12.20.18 | White Offerings doesn't really fit here, agreed, it feels like a token nod to their past. The bridge is actually one of my fave AFI bits though. I have no clue how you think Above The Bridge and Get Hurt are similar at all but ok. Get Hurt is like low-key my fave AFI song ever these days. And really surprised to see Dark Snow as your #1, did not see that coming. I love singing that one in the shower. | GreyShadow
12.20.18 | The bridge in White Offerings is hype, I will say that but it doesn't make the song unfortunately.
The two have always sounded so similar to me. They would probably be back to back about a year ago. Get Hurt is good, don't get me wrong. Honestly I think if Davey had more interesting parts on both of these, I'd love em.
And yeah, I think Dark Snow is an incredible song that I feel will always be underrated but I'm obviously glad to hear it's a shower song for you | LightChaotic
12.20.18 | I agree that White Offerings is the weakest track on The Blood Album. I like Davey's vocal delivery and the bridge is fucking awesome but it's definitely the song that I go back to the least. | artiswar
12.20.18 | I like the vocal melodies on Get Hurt a ton even if they're very simple and repetitive. I like them a lot more than most of the ones on the Get Dark EP. Get Hurt is super bright and upbeat while Across The Bridge is like one of their dreariest Cure-y songs. Only thing I see in common is the use of a stripped down chorus. | nightbringer
12.20.18 | Nice list. Agree about Davey's awkward vocals in Snow Cats. Probably my least favourite song here and a strange choice for a single. Think I agree that She Speaks the Language is top.
And man So Beneath You is musically such a jam but rightly or wrongly I'm just not (personally) comfortable listening to something that explicitly and antagonistically atheist. Dumb Kids satisfies that alt punk craving though. | GreyShadow
12.21.18 | nightbringer I can respect that. I felt uncomfortable with listening to songs like Smile or The Prayer Position about 8-10 or so years ago but ehh my beliefs kinda shifted and those songs are kinda too good to ignore | artiswar
12.21.18 | Why can't you just accept his position though? Not like he's calling you dumb for having your own beliefs. If anything, So Beneath You is less about God and more about taking personal agency in your life. It's a positive message not a negative one | GreyShadow
12.21.18 | Yeah, that's how I see it, but hey I'm not gonna tell people what makes them comfortable and what doesn't | Storm In A Teacup
12.21.18 | Album is a 5 agreed | GreyShadow
12.21.18 | album is like a 3.8 on a meh day and a 4.1 on a good day. that's pretty solid |
