02.14.12 | do i pretty much have to re-dl everything? |
Maniac!
02.14.12 | look in the folder you hold your music in? typically itunes just reads the files |
OnlyAnchors
02.14.12 | see the problem is, i didnt back up my music once i got a new comp (too lazy) so im just hoping that i dont have to re-dl everything. ive got like 15 albums in my 2012 folder but thats it |
FruityCatOfDoom
02.14.12 | Wait? You only had the music in itunes? If you don't have the files somewhere on your computer in a folder or something then they're gone. Itunes doesn't actually contain music files itself, it just organizes them, makes them easy to access, and play. |
anarchistfish
02.14.12 | Go in your music folder, and then iTunes music or something. That's usually where iTunes puts music |
TechieCore
02.14.12 | That's why I don't use iTunes.
WMP for the win. |

iTunes only manages the music for you, I think. I have most of my stuff on an external hard drive, so when I unplug that iTunes goes crazy that it can't see my music. At least it's not stupid enough to blank my iPod, at least that hasn't happened yet. |
TechieCore
02.14.12 | ^ Thats why I use WMP. You can move the whole folder to an external, reformat, and then just drag it back to your music folder and WMP recognizes everything, and it's exactly how you left it. And I'm very OCD with my album ratings, cover art, etc. |
FruityCatOfDoom
02.14.12 | I have all my music in a folder on my desktop for easy access. I later imported it all in to itunes. All my shit is super organized. |

haha same |
Yazz_Flute
02.14.12 | I think this is exactly the same thing that happened to me at the beginning of the month. Open the itunes folder on your harddrive and in that folder, there should be a "previous libraries" folder or something of the sort. Reinstall the most recent one. |
devious
02.14.12 | Well, anybody that knows even a little about itunes knows to back up and save the music files you download in a central file, press ctrl+o on the itunes screen, and load music you've downloaded that way. That way, if you ever need a reformat, all your music is in one central file. |

02.14.12 | instead of helping you out I'm going to tell you that you're asking this in the wrong place so you'll have to restate your problem in a totally different site like the apple forums |

But when you plug your hard drive back in itunes knows where to look on it's own then or do you have to do anything for it to work? I've been considering getting an external HD to put my music on for a while but I always wondered how itunes would react to that seeing as how it loses track of a song as soon as you move it from one folder to another or even just change the name of a folder |
