06.09.11 | I usually ask liledman or check his list.
Pharoah Sanders' late 60s/early 70s stuff. Has vocals and yodelling on some tracks. Some of the most joyful music I've ever heard.
John Coltrane - Crescent (not quite as good as ALS etc but this is a different kettle of fish. Same musicians but different vibe - lots of down tempo melodic stuff and restraint)
Bill Evans Trio - Sunday at the Village Vanguard (same line up/era as Waltz for Debby. I'd kill to be able to play Gloria's Step.)
Ahmad Jamal - "Swalihand" and "The Awakening" are also both worth a look. Awesome piano player who apparently influenced Miles Davis' modal stuff in the 50s but these are early 70s albums. |
