| My Favourite Albums I've Discovered In 2011 So Far
In no real order! I started properly getting into indie and electronica, and loads of other music rrI'd never listened to before, in January this year for the first time, as all I'd really listened to rrbefore was rock and rmetal. Some recommendations would be nice, if possible. | 15 | | Flying Lotus Cosmogramma
Another sprawling album, but on a much smaller scale (if that makes sense)
Epic every time. | 14 | | Jay-Z The Blueprint
Just as good as all the hype, what an album. | 13 | | Gospel The Moon Is A Dead World
This album is so strong musically that it even made me... sort of... like the
harsh vocals that I'm normally so averse to. | 12 | | Joanna Newsom Have One On Me
Just like Illinois, crazily ambitious, but in a really different way. A sprawling,
amazing experience. | 11 | | Arcade Fire Funeral
Not much really needs to be said there. I thought they were overrated for
the longest time, even after about five listens of this, but eventually it
clicked, and wow. | 10 | | LCD Soundsystem Sound of Silver
A very good electronica/dance album, with surprisingly incredible lyrics at
points, too. | 9 | | Thomas Dybdahl That Great October Sound
Lovely folky record from one of the most underrated vocalists of our time. | 8 | | The Knife Silent Shout
One of the eeriest electronica albums ever, but so, so good. | 7 | | Miles Davis Bitches Brew
The polar opposite of the more popular Kind Of Blue, but probably the best
jazz album of all time. | 6 | | Sufjan Stevens Illinois
Probably the most ambitious album I've heard in a while, and also the
biggest triumph of style I've ever heard. | 5 | | The National Boxer
Better than High Violet IMO, and has their best song; Apartment Story. | 4 | | Thrice Vheissu
I'm still not sure if I prefer this to The Alchemy Index, but this is a really
strong post-hardcore album that is incredibly addictive. | 3 | | Bonnie 'Prince' Billy I See A Darkness
Just a brilliant, emotional record all round. Glad I found it. | 2 | | The Tallest Man On Earth Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird
I love The Wild Hunt more, but this is actually a crazily strong EP, if a little
brief. | 1 | | Radiohead In Rainbows
For some reason I'd never gotten into Radiohead before, but this and Kid A
made me love them immediately. In Rainbows seems to be their best
balance of sounds so far for me. | |

03.15.11 | Whoa Whoa Whoa. Bitches Brew is damn good, but personally I think Dave Brubeck Quartet's Time Out is better. | Yotimi
03.15.11 | It's been a really good year for you so far. Love all these except 4 (which is ok imo) and haven't heard 9. For something similar to 8 and more eerie, check out her solo album: Fever Ray - S/T. | MarvellousG
03.15.11 | Nice, gonna check out all of these suggestions so thanks guys. And yeah, Alligator is definitely on the list. I can see the argument for Time Out being better, but I prefer the sheer density of BB myself. | iSkane
03.15.11 | 10 is so good. You should check out their newest one "This is Happening". It's far better in my opinion. | omnipanzer
03.15.11 | Bitches Brew is damn good but Brubeck Quartet's Time Out IS better.
and what Butchered said. | couldwinarabbit
03.15.11 | I love all of these but 14 and 4. | MarvellousG
03.15.11 | Yeah, 4 is the one I'm least passionate about here. Any Radiohead album could also qualify here | danielito19
03.16.11 | anyways if you're looking for more jazz, check out Chick Corea's stuff, and Bill Connors'.
it's not exactly in the same vein of jazz but I love it and you should too. |
