2013 Metal You May Have Missed
Here's some new releases I've enjoyed this summer. Some stuff you might rhave heard of, but hopefully you find something new. |
1 | | Take Over and Destroy Endless Night
Really abrasive thrashy sludge. They have a pretty distinct sound and mix, pulling
off a very filthy performance. |
2 | | Tribulation The Formulas Of Death
Really groovy death metal, almost warm sounding at times. Influenced by rock, they
end up playing some pretty melodic riffs in very subtle ways. Not as indulgent as it
might sound. |
3 | | Night Heir A Maze Of Evenings
This album almost seems more like a mixtape, despite the fact it flows flawlessly.
Made up of a trio, the band drifts between many conflicting elements of black
metal. They make songs that are almost prog at times, but also songs that present
a very traditional black metal style. Other elements such as post-punk, orchestral,
folk, and even just plain rock take up entire songs, without interrupting the
continuity of the album. Highly recommended. |
4 | | Loss Of Self Twelve Minutes
I've only heard a few songs of this, but I liked what I've heard. It sure has a cool
album cover. |
5 | | Plaga Magia gwiezdnej entropii
Pretty traditional sounding black metal, but it's certainly more interesting than many
of it's contemporaries. |
6 | | Cultes Des Ghoules Henbane
Atmospheric black metal with a large variety of vocal styles and some interesting
compositions. |
7 | | orok orok
They've got a very buzzy atmospheric mix of black metal. Nothing too extreme, but
enjoyable nonetheless. |
8 | | Hope Drone Hope Drone
Again, atmospheric black metal that is nothing too special, but still worth the listen. |
9 | | Hierophant Great Mother: Holy Monster
This one isn't on sputnik....but it's an album that's worth checking out. |
10 | | Dead In The Dirt The Blind Hole
Sludgy grind with a really really awesome mix. It's not often feedback sounds this
good. |
