brainmelter
10.25.16 | Earplugs are essential for longevity. should have got them a while ago mang |
SpiritCrusher2
10.25.16 | actually my hearing is somehow perfectly fine, wasn't too serious in that comment, but yea, I'm just kinda worried |
SacredSerenity
10.25.16 | I notice that my hearing is getting worse thus I will buy good ones. The ones from Sennheiser usually still deliver a great sound |
RadicalEd
10.25.16 | Always wear earplugs to concerts, especially if I'm close to the stage (which is 98% of the time). |
MH18
10.25.16 | ''I'm used to loud noise''.
Ridiculous statement. Anyway, ear plugs (when you buy fairly decent ones, mine were like 40 euros) don't affect sound all that much. Would reccommend to anyone going to any concert tbh. Damage is done fairly quickly at loud volumes |
SpiritCrusher2
10.25.16 | holy crap 40 euros? I was thinking about buying some cheap ones at a pharmacy or whatever lol |
MH18
10.25.16 | I play in a band and go to a lot of shows. So I looked up ear plugs that were designed to just mute the overall sound a bit without affecting sound (quality). I would say if you use them frequently (like I do) it's well worth it. But cheap ones will do the trick (sound reducing) as well but I don't like that they affect sound |
SpiritCrusher2
10.25.16 | oh, ok then. I'm wearing those vic firth's headphones when rehearsing now, they do wonders, but I thought it'd look kinda silly to wear them to a show idk hah |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | I always bring earplugs to concerts i expect to be loud, which is most concerts nowadays |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | esp to a swans concert |
MH18
10.25.16 | Haha, yeah probably ;). I'm very careful when it comes to my ears haha, mainly because music is my greatest passion and hobby. That's why I reccommend everyone to wear ear plugs (or any form of protection for that matter). |
MH18
10.25.16 | @TheSpaceMan, yup. Everything seems ridiculously loud nowadays... |
BallsDeep
10.25.16 | you may find you dont really need them but its worth having the option anyway. Some shows are just too fucking loud, i've been to a few (usually in enclosed rooms) where it literally hurt my head. But my hearing is rapidly deteriorating as i listen to loud music with those in ner ear headphones for several hours a day so soon loud concerts shouldn't be a problem. |
Keyblade
10.25.16 | they're a must dude, especially if u wanna enjoy shows 10 years from now |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | First time I saw someone using them was at an outdoor festival and I thought it was dumb, like "why would you want to go to a show and not experience loud noises?" and I didn't feel like it was that loud - I was right a little bit, outdoor venues are great for live music because the sound doesn't reverberate so much. Plus I didn't realkh understand how plugs worked and thought it would be like 'fingers-in-ears' experience where the sound is all blocked.
But indoor venues...I'm going to make a point of getting earplugs well in advance next time since I haven't had them for any of the shows I've seen, but I really should have. It's just not worth the damage they do; my ears were ringing for a few weeks afterwards from the last show I saw. And after learning more about how plugs work and that they only affect the decibel level, that is to say good plugs only limit the pressure on the ear and don't affect the sound itself, I'll definitely be buying some before I do something permanent. |
MH18
10.25.16 | ^^ This |
SpiritCrusher2
10.25.16 | thanks for the feedback guys. gonna buy some cheaper plugs for tomorrow, and I'll invest in some better ones when I get the money. cheers! |
G0atC0re
10.25.16 | yeah, I almost always wear them. |
thumbcrusher
10.25.16 | I always take them, even if sometimes I decide I'm ok without once I get there, but I find that they usually make it sound better. Rather than a sort of distorted mess it sounds much clearer and comfortable. |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | I was wondering if that might happen because sometimes it's so unnecessarily loud everything just blends together. |
24gadjet
10.25.16 | wear them watching shows, wear em playing shows, wear them if you're jamming with a drummer, tinnitus sucks |
SpiritCrusher2
10.25.16 | "but I find that they usually make it sound better. Rather than a sort of distorted mess it sounds much clearer and comfortable."
yea I can believe that. I've got some headphones designed specifically for drummers, to isolate the surrounding noise, but they also somehow make even a shit sounding drumset sound decent/pleasant, it's amazing haha |
Rastapunk
10.25.16 | Seeing the effect of Dillinger Escape Plan on my hearing after the concert, I always take some in case I feel it gets too loud. Once you fuck up your hearing there is no turning back and I can't live without music :/ |
zakalwe
10.25.16 | Feel it, live it, have tinnitus, hold no regrets, fuck swans. |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | Fuck swans? I've heard their vaginas are cork screw in shape |
zakalwe
10.25.16 | :D Can you imagine, some fella hanging out the back of a swan, earplugs in. |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | long as there's consent from both sides i dont see a problem |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | lol |
zakalwe
10.25.16 | It'll happen dude I'm telling ya.
Age of consent lowered, prostitution legalised then what's next? Chemsex orgies with Flipper at seaworld. |

10.25.16 | Fucking a swan is treason in London - property of her Majesty |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | I don't see what's wrong with it. As long as you woo the swan with a nice dinner, chocolates and roses, a bottle of wine opened with aforementioned corkscrew vagina. Text book romance. |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | I can see why a woman would feel uncomfortable with the thought, only adds to their competition |

10.25.16 | seriously please wear earplugs. I saw Deafheaven without any and it probably was one of the dumbest decisions of my life |
Deathconscious
10.25.16 | its the smart thing to do, i have yet to be fucked with it though. |
Titan
10.25.16 | might as well leave your drawers on when having sex as well gentlemen |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | Why do bands think people want the music so fucking loud? |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | lol titan |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | if it's with a swan then I probably would |
Deathconscious
10.25.16 | "might as well leave your drawers on when having sex as well gentlemen"
leaving your drawers on during sex has no benefit. poor analogy. |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | its closer to a condom which suck but are necessary for non-relationships |

10.25.16 | Hearos High Fidelity Earplugs. Do it and don't look back. |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | Wear hearing protection kids, don't want to get hearing aids |
DungeonBoy
10.25.16 | I didn't wear earplugs to any shows in my 20's, but I now try and make a point to wear them. It's really not worth losing your hearing man, and in my experience some bands actually sound more clear when wearing them. You might think they look lame, but there's nothing cool about tinnitus. |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | 'Wear hearing protection kids, don't want to get hearing aids'
lobbed straight at ya (; |
ScuroFantasma
10.25.16 | Appreciate the set-up |
Rolling Girl
10.25.16 | I bring disposable earbuds to house shows all the time and they work just fine. |
DungeonBoy
10.25.16 | Same here dude. I don't think I paid more than 5 bucks for like a pack of 20 from a drugstore down the street. They work great. |
Riviere
10.25.16 | It's Swans, take earplugs.
I'll never forget reading the story about the guy who went to see Them Crooked Vultures and didn't bring earplugs, the dude got tinnitus so bad that he wound up killing himself. Although that's probably a rare case your hearing is worth taking care of. |
Evreaia
10.25.16 | A couple of years ago I had a ringing sound for three weeks after a concert. I really thought I had ruined my hearing back then.
Ever since I always use earplugs, bought some expensive ones about a year ago, a must have. |
Sinternet
10.25.16 | Yo dude i forgot earplugs when i saw Swans and after like 2 hours i was feeling so dizzy and faint i had to get to the side of the venue and hold onto the wall so i didnt collapse. Would not recommend. |
MyNameIsPencil
10.25.16 | Believe me, wear earplugs
when I saw death grips last summer I was the only one in my group that wore them and we were front and center
only one who didn't complain of their ears ringing afterwords lol |
TheSpaceMan
10.25.16 | @sin at any point that night did you leave your drink unattended? |
SpiritCrusher2
10.25.16 | @sin same thing happened to me the first time I saw them, that's the reason I made the list. I went outside until I felt better but I decided to stay in the back of the venue for the rest of the ahow. otherwise I'd probably never consider wearing them, don't mind the ringing in my ears after a good show. but yea, that shit was scary and lame at the same time |
Sinternet
10.25.16 | lol no space i don't drink at shows
and yeah it's certainly prompted me to look for a good pair |
Mongi123
10.25.16 | Just wear them man, I think seeing Rush, though the best experience ever, gave me a little tinnitus, so I wore them to Dream Theater and it was a great decision. Just put them on in the bathroom and no one will notice. Everyone will be too invested into the music to notice. When I saw Deftones I was surprisingly fine after without wearing plugs but I probably should have anyway. |
NastyCrab
10.25.16 | seeing Dillinger/car bomb/cult leader in a few weeks, definitely want some protection. can anyone rec any particular earplugs? |
porcupinetheater
10.25.16 | Swans are the only show I've ever worn earplugs too, pick 'em up for sure. |
ZippaThaRippa
10.25.16 | I wear earplugs to every show. With most metal bands it's a given that you're going to have to sit through 3+ shitty opening bands. No sense wasting your precious hearing on them. I'll generally take em out so I can get the full experience of the band I came to see. |
Masochist
10.25.16 | I've only ever worn earplugs for a Fallujah/BTBAM, and that's because when I walked in the venue, it was already too loud. Also because they were selling them at the merch table, so it was convenient. But I definitely prescribe them. |
Masochist
10.25.16 | Also...some bands hand them out for free at the door. I heard My Bloody Valentine did that, and my friend (an audio engineer) said the show was STILL too loud. |
ZippaThaRippa
10.25.16 | I always bring a couple extra pairs. Once I saw a dude stuffing tissues into his ear to help with the noise and I hooked him up.
I'm a show bro fo sho |
TheGreatQ
10.25.16 | I've got some really nice ones that were a bit expensive but they don't muffle the sound at all, just makes everything quieter. I should have started wearing them sooner because my hearing is a lot worse than it was before I started going to concerts. |
Thibs
10.25.16 | seeing mehuggah/high on fire sunday. no buds bros |
