| of Montreal Ranked
In anticipation of their upcoming double LP, "I Feel Safe With You, Trash", available now on patreon and everywhere else on March 5, 2021, I decided to rank their studio albums. oM is an indie-pop band that's going on 24 years of activity and have constantly genre-shifted from album to album, incorporating elements of pop, psychedelia, funk, electronic, post-punk, etc. The band seems pretty divisive and some people love them, others loathe them. I've also come to notice many people have VASTLY different favorites, so I can see many of you disagreeing with my ranking, but there's a lot of different styles and personal preferences at play. I won't be including their EPs or compilations, despite them having some excellent tracks. SO without further ado, let's rank of Montreal: | 16 | | of Montreal Innocence Reaches | 15 | | of Montreal UR FUN | 14 | | of Montreal Aldhils Arboretum | 13 | | of Montreal Lousy With Sylvianbriar | 12 | | of Montreal False Priest | 11 | | of Montreal Cherry Peel | 10 | | of Montreal Aureate Gloom | 9 | | of Montreal The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy | 8 | | of Montreal The Sunlandic Twins | 7 | | of Montreal White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood | 6 | | of Montreal Satanic Panic in the Attic | 5 | | of Montreal Coquelicot Asleep In The Poppies | 4 | | of Montreal Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? | 3 | | of Montreal Skeletal Lamping | 2 | | of Montreal Paralytic Stalks | 1 | | of Montreal The Gay Parade | |

02.23.21 | I know y'all are gonna hate me for Cherry Peel's placement | Veldin
02.23.21 | Also, I've been jamming the new double LP every day for the past week or two and if I were to include it on the list, I'd put it at #6 ahead of Satanic Panic, but that's possibly due to hype and subject to change. imo it's a blend of White is Relic and Skeletal Lamping, but still has lots of new ideas and a good amount of ambient influence. | SandwichBubble
02.23.21 | "I know y'all are gonna hate me for Cherry Peel's placement"
You got that right.
At least you've got 1 up there, that's good. | ArsMoriendi
02.23.21 | 6 > 1 > 4 >5
Haven’t heard the rest | Ryus
02.23.21 | i would probably like this band
need 2 chek | ArsMoriendi
02.23.21 | Ryus, if you liked anything, it'd be their 90s stuff, so I guess check The Gay Parade if you're interested | Ryus
02.23.21 | will do | porcupinetheater
02.23.21 | Small world, Ars! (Two albums in to the discog run, already regretting this lol) | CaliggyJack
02.23.21 | I've never heard these guys but have been thinking of checking them out. What is a good album to start with? | porcupinetheater
02.23.21 | Satanic Panic | Veldin
02.24.21 | @porcupine- next album in their discog is my favorite. I think it's when they really hit their stride and start incorporating more instrumentation and style.
@CalligyJack- yeah probably either Satanic Panic or Hissing Fauna, which is their most popular. Kinda depends what kind of pop you're looking for. My first LP was Paralytic Stalks which is more orchestral baroque pop | Veldin
02.25.21 | For anyone interested, Kevin has posted 4 songs from the upcoming double LP on their bandcamp: https://ofmontreal.bandcamp.com/album/i-feel-safe-with-you-trash-2 | WatchItExplode
02.25.21 | I am somewhat OK with the placement of Coquelicot and Skeletal Lamping but thats about it... | Veldin
02.25.21 | How would you rank their albums? :o | WatchItExplode
02.25.21 | I agree that rankings of this band are bound to differ greatly. The 2 I mentioned are my top, Cherry Peel and Satanic next, then it gets a bit murky. | Veldin
02.25.21 | Right on, Coquelicot used to be my second favorite, but I've really grown to love Hissing, Skeletal and Paralytic more. I could see me putting Coquelicot above Hissing Fauna though, because damn do I have such fond memories of listening to that wacky ass LP |
