You’re Gonna Miss It All
Dead Space 2 (pc) - 8.5/10
This game is bigger and better in every way compared to the first. It’s much more action focused which for me is always, always a trade off with the horror, but with Dead Space 2 it’s somehow scarier than the first game. Rip and tear until it is done. | | 2 |  | Captain, We're Sinking
The Future Is Cancelled
Thumper - (pc) 9/10
You play as a space beetle hurtling along a track at 1000 MPH as you battle eldritch abominations and a very angry pyramid. Thumper is the most violent, intense, and rewarding rhythm game I've ever played. It gets so fast toward the end that you seriously have to start planning out when you're going to blink. It’s hard to describe the gameplay but it’s really simple controller inputs in a guitar hero kinda way, I don’t know just buy this sucker. Advance Wars (GBA emulator) - 7/10
So I’ve played hundreds of hours of Advance Wars 2 and 3, but for whatever reason never played the first one until now. I definitely would have loved this game if I had played it first, but it really pales in comparison to its sequels. They so drastically improved the formula for 2 and 3, going back to 1 it just feels like a game that’s missing half of what makes it great. It was still worth playing for the unique campaign maps, but I skipped the war room. Advance Wars is still the gold standard for turn based tactics games. | | 4 |  | Counterparts
Nothing Left to Love
Max Payne 3 (pc) - 8/10
Max Payne 3 was developed by Rockstar for better and for worse. The gameplay is the best of the series, but the story is by far the worst. It has all the hallmarks of overwritten Rockstar games, there’s 1000 cutscenes, but very little happens. And Max has wayyyy too much inner monologue. Like instead of crafting a few dozen really good lines they just batch wrote like 500 things for him to say. I swear there’s 100 unique lines of monologue for painkiller pickups in this game. James Mccaffrey gives the performance of his career and really saves this game. It’s a lot of fun and it’s still Max Payne. I’m glad it exists and I’ll gladly play it again in the future. | | 5 |  | Soundtrack (Video Game)
Mass Effect
Silent Hill 3 (ps2 emulator) - 8/10
My main issue with this game has to do with character. In Silent Hill 2 I loved and connected with every single character. In this game I really only like Heather. The cult lady and the weird dude are boring and all their conversations in the game are the same circular nonsense. The private detective guy is all right. This game is fucking scary and there’s a lot more combat than the second game which I have mixed feelings about because they didn’t innovate enough with the mechanics to really justify having to wail on 100 more monsters. | |

09.02.21 | DS2 100% better than the first. I really hope we get past trve horror games being ugly games that control like ass because it's a stupid sentiment akin to thinking the camera angles and tank controls are what made resident evil scary in the first place. 3 is ok too but once you give enemies guns it just gets annoying because the mechanics (even with the shiity cover system and useless dodge roll) arent supposed to be based around hit scan enemies. | Trebor.
