I normally don't like christian bands, but mewithoutYou are hard not to like. Aaron Weiss' lyrics are jaw
dropping. He knows how to paint a picture in the listener's head and make them come back for more.
Brother, Sister is a masterpiece and not only succeeds lyrical but also shows the band is just as talented as
Weiss. |
| 14 | The Velvet Underground
They are mainly on here because of their debut album. It is great and Nico helped them make on of the
best albums of all time. It influenced so much and it's actually sad that it didn't sell well when it was first
released. Loaded and their self titled are also perfect albums that stand the test of tiime. Lou Reed is the
man! |
| 13 | Nirvana
I'm pretty sure they are hated on this site, but I don't care. Nirvana was one of the first bands I was
exposed to. They defined the 90's and changed the entire music scene. Nevermind remains one of my
favorite albums and when I want something that rocks and has pop hooks at the same time Nevermind is
the album I turn to. |
| 12 | Arcade Fire
Funeral might just the best debut by a band of all time. When I first heard I admit I hated it. I had to
listen to it multiple times to fall in love with it, but it was worth it. Neighborhood #1 remains my favorite
song of theirs and Wake Up is just one of the anthems of my generation. While they won't match it ever
again it's great to listen to it and know a band finally got it right on their first try. |
| 11 | The Who
Keith Moon is without a doubt my favorite drummer. He is the reason I listen to The Who. Who's Next is a
flawless rock album and Live at Leeds is the best live album ever. Rock doesn't get much better than The
Who. In my opinion they easily beat Zeppelin any day, but that's a whole different argument. |
| 10 | Bright Eyes
Back in my first semester of college I was depressed and just happened to stumble across Bright Eyes. I
heard First Day of My Life and it made me happy. I listened to that song for days until I realized that they
have better songs, but that song is important to me to this day. I love Conor a lot for his insightful and at
times hilarious lyrics. While he hasn't made anything memorable in a couple of years I'll remember him for
his magnum opus Lifted or the Story Is In The Soil. |
| 9 | Say Anything
Yeah Max Bemis is a douche, but I love him for it. His lyrics are honest and he holds nothing back. ...Is A
Real Boy is an amazing pop punk album and I never tire of it. While the band may never match it again it I
will always look forward to what this band has to offer. They re-defined pop punk for me and made me
interest in the genre again. |
| 8 | Regina Spektor
The most original lyricist I listen to. When I listen to her I know I can expect something original and fresh.
Begin to Hope is my favorite album of hers and On The Radio is her best song. I love all her songs equally,
but I will always return to Begin to Hope for the best Regina has to offer. The women is amazing and I can'
t wait for her next album. |
| 7 | Green Day
Yeah they suck now and need to stop. But back in '04 when I was thirteen they were everything to me. I
listened to American Idiot so much and it really is the album that got me into music. Without it I never
would have found Pink Floyd or other great bands that are obviously better. I still listen to Dookie to this
day and always look forward to hearing Longview. Without a doubt the best Green Day song. Back in the
90's these guys were on and while I was too young to know who they were I remember hearing Good
Riddance everywhere. I miss those times and wish Green Day would return to form. |
| 6 | The Beatles
Often called the best band ever. Not hard to see why. The Beatles changed everything and are deserving of
the title. Abbey Road is a perfect album and Revolver is pure pop perfection. Let us not forget Sgt. Peppers
which is my pick for most influential album of all time. I remember when I first heard Sgt. Peppers it was
the most perfect thing I had ever heard. Every song was brilliant and I listened to "With a Little From My
Friends" non stop. |
| 5 | The Clash
The best punk band by far. London Calling is a top 10 album of all time and every song on it is a
masterpiece. "Lost in the Supermakert" is my personal favorite off the album. The lyrics are brilliant and
again I can relate to them. While The Clash would never match this masterpiece their other albums are all
brilliant, well except for Cut the Crap, but I forgive them for that. |
| 4 | Jefferson Airplane
The first band I ever loved. While they've dropped three spots they are still amazing. Grace Slick is super
awesome and Jorma Koukonen is probably my favorite guitarist. Volunteers is such an underrated album
and it was the first album I ever listened to in full. I was blown away and never looked back. Every song on
that album is unique and again the lyrics are great on that album. Don't listen to Surrealistic Pillow listen
to Volunteers. |
| 3 | Brand New
What can I say I'm sucker for lyrics that mean something to me. Brand New does that and goes beyond.
While at first I loved Dejua Entendu the most The Devil and God Are Raging Are Inside Me kept growing on
me and wouldn't let me go. It's my record of the past decade and listen to it almost everyday. To me it's
pure perfection and Limousine might just be my favorite song of the past 10 years. |

It was December '09 and was looking for new music. I opened up a copy of Undertheradar magazine and
found Rilo Kiley. Being a huge fan of female vocalists it was only natural that I would fall in love with them.
Jenny Lewis is not only an amazing singer she is also a smart lyricist. She puts all her of her heart in her
music and makes sure that not only her music is personal, but that others can relate to it. I still remember
that December playing Borderlands on my XBOX and listening to their records The Execution of All Things
and More Adventurous back to back. |
| 1 | Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd takes my top spot because they mean everything to me. I still remember when I first found
Dark Side of the Moon. It was the greatest and still is the best album I have ever heard. I would later
discover Animals and Wish You Were Here. Two more classic albums from Floyd. Pink Floyd remains the
only band that I can listen to over and over again and never get tired of. When I'm listening to them I'm in
a different world and forget the problems around me. No other band can do that for me day in and day out. |
