My Progression
My musical tastes throughout my life so far, and how I discovered new ones. |
1 | | The Beatles 1
This album is the soundtrack to my childhood, and probably the first album I ever really listened to in its entirety. My dad would play it on every family road trip... every single one. I think I know every word to every song on this. |
2 | | Red Hot Chili Peppers Stadium Arcadium
Fast forward 5 years later. I'm 11. I hear Dani California on the radio. I like it. I buy Stadium Arcadium off itunes and I listen to it not stop for the next six months. Now I can't listen to that album without vomiting. heh. |
3 | | Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication
So, I really liked Stadium Arcadium but that did, eventually, get old. So I got more Chili Peppers! This album blew my fucking mind in how much better then Stadium it was. I still like this album. Then came even older Chili Peppers.... |
4 | | Red Hot Chili Peppers What Hits!?
This album took a while to get into, but once it did I was hooked like a crack addict. FIGHT LIKE A BRAVE! |
5 | | Modest Mouse Good News For People Who Love Bad News
A friend of one of my sisters gave her this album, so it was on my itunes. She never liked it, but I loved this album. I made this album the soundtrack of my life when I was 13. |
6 | | Built to Spill You In Reverse
So puttering around itunes, looking for bands like Modest Mouse I discovered Built to Spill... and DAMN. "I would not be a liiiiiiiiiiar" got into my soul somehow. |
7 | | Tool Undertow
Around the same time as I was listening to Modest Mouse and Built to Spill, I listened to a local rock station that played Tool all the fucking time. I liked it, or I thought I liked it... but then I got this album, and was not at all impressed. It seemed boring as fuck, and there didn't seem to be any emotion in the music at all. I was THIS close to becoming a metal head, but this album thankfully made me change course, and instead listen to |
8 | | The Roots Rising Down
I got turned on to this by a local newspaper that gave this album a really good review. I was intrigued, because the notion of "intelligent" hip hop hadn't occurred to me- all I knew about hip hop was Lil Wayne and T.I. The first time I listened to this though, it scared me (I'm still 13). The amount of times Black Thought used the N-word in 75 Bars traumatized me- I wouldn't listen to the album again for a month. I was too scared my parents would find out. However when I gave The Roots another listen... I loved it. |
9 | | Sage Francis A Healthy Distrust
I started to look for more hip hop after that, and somehow I stumbled upon this album. I fucking loved this album. Still do. Sage's wordplay and sheer rage on this album make a lethal combination. |
10 | | A Tribe Called Quest The Low End Theory
After A Healthy Distrust I went to a local music store and bought 6 hip hop CDs, pretty much randomly. I had no idea what I was purchasing. This was one of them, and by far my favorite. |
11 | | Atmosphere Godlovesugly
Then over the last couple years I've really started to get into Underground and classic hip hop, which led me to Atmosphere... |
12 | | Atmosphere When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold
More Atmosphere... |
13 | | GZA Liquid Swords
and, of course, that WU TANG STYLE |
14 | | Ice Cube The Predator
"check yo self before you wreck yo self, taking dicks in the ass is bad for your health." -that is why Ice Cube is a legend. |
15 | | Operation Ivy Energy
And then very recently I've been getting into some Punk as well. |
