From my experience, moderation doesn't help. Caffeine anxiety is retained in the body. It'll grow exponentially if you do not stop ingesting the substance for months. That's why your sleep is also ruined for many months after you had quit. |

I notice it in Hollywood movies, there is no modern movie without the word "coffee" thrown around, then in real life, my colleagues at work, family acting like zombies all the time: "I need coffee", "I could use some coffee". Ok like what the fuck. Literally everyone is addicted to this shit and nobody wants to observe it is the very reason why they're so tired all the time. It's both hilarious and sad, but mostly scary.

Caffeine - I drink 1-3 cups of green tea a week. Often this is more common in the PM and I don’t feel particularly tired as long as I get a good night sleep. So I think I’m okay here.
Dairy - so cheese is my favorite food and ice cream is my favorite dessert so giving up dairy sounds like a miserable time. All vegan dairy alternatives except for oatmilk taste like shit, though I have switched to oatmilk recently when I eat cereal… too stubborn for this one.
Sugar - I try to limit my sugar, but it can be difficult to do this in my current situation.
Pork - I honestly rarely eat it. I mostly consume chicken/turkey for meat with the occasional treating myself to beef/lamb/shrimp.
Corn - Yeah I don’t even like corn. Olive oil > corn oil vegetable oil. It freaks me out how common corn syrup is in everything and honestly even corn on the cob isn’t my thing.

In all seriousness, though, I went from pretty much running on coffee to having one large espresso about twice a week, and I did notice the benefits you highlighted. I don't NEED coffee, but I won't say I don't still LIKE it, or that I could ever do away with it entirely.
Dairy, though? Even if I could give up milk, I would not be happy if I couldn't have my cheese and butter.
Sugar, I have reduced my intake severely, but I could never give up chocolate or pastries.
Pork I was allergic to as a child, ate it for a while as an adult, and my face swole up something awful. Still eat coldcuts occasionally, but no more pork chops or steaks for me...
Corn? WTF? I'd never heard that one yet. My family consumes a lot of corn flour, and we eat corn on the cob whenever the season comes around. |

A common problem I see with people who are flirting with the idea of quitting dairy is that they need to replace it with a vegan alternative. Nope, that's not how it's done! Quit dairy for real, not to unconsciously crave for it and replace it with inferior alternatives. Quitting dairy means quitting cheese, ice cream, pizza... forever, scary right?

Again, why alternatives? We have water. But there is tomato juice, carrot juice and dry wine, which have beautiful taste and are pretty low in sugars. There's freshly squeezed orange juice with pulp, which is alright in moderation. |

If I consume too much (say two strong coffees) of it on an empty stomach my face will flush and prob have to release my bowels. I used to wonder why I felt so bad drinking between ages 20 and 26....it wasn't the alcohol consumption as much as the trend to mix spirits with energy drinks. 8 red bulls a night as mixers was not considered strange! Crazy.
Dairy - I largely quit for a long time as I had mild IBS, even now I only really have it as a cooked ingredient - I can't be bothered checking if it's in sauces all the time when eating out. Benefits of reducing dairy are massive, you won't ever pass gas for a start, like a rare event. My IBS cleared up almost instantly and has never come back. It is highly linked to cancer as you say and seems a grim state sponsored industry anyway.
Sugar - hardest one there is, it's in everything. I don't actively choose to eat anything sugary super frequently other than fruit but will have the occasional treat, more in winter, don't crave it so much in the summer. Fizzy drinks are addictive, only have when I go out.
Pork and Corn - minimal intake, like them, not too worried.

Doof I think you are probably referring to Campbell's 'The China Study' and its allied literature.
I don't necessarily disagree with the book's conclusions fundamentally speaking, but I think it does a pretty bad job at vulgarization and tends to mistakenly present things as unshakeable truth when in medicine and even more so perhaps in nutritional science it is extremely rare and difficult to produce scientific evidence that allows one to make near-definite conclusions. Animal studies cannot be used to make statements pertaining to human biology, and are mostly helpful to direct research rather than to offer strong evidence. Rhetorical arguments have no scientific value when it comes to proving facts. I wrote notes all over my copy of the book because it makes so many such mistakes in my view.
I am currently reading Greger's How Not to Die which does a slightly better job at this, but is still limited by the available evidence being a bit difficult to interpret and not as clear cut as any diet advocate would want it to be. Arguments of this being the fault of lobbying or censorship or whatever else is not helpful as far as analyzing scientific evidence goes. Both books rely on studies by Ornish if you want to look into the base literature.
All this being said, there is still a lot of nutritional data out there to look at - one should just really be wary of oversimplification, direct causations and rhetorical discussions. There are compelling reasons to give up some of these food groups beside health impact or any other 'live a better life' claims - thinking for example of the environmental impact of dairy or pork/meat in general, and of the ethical questions that come along with them.

05.18.22 | Base is right about one thing - I went on a diet a few years back, and was advised to stop consuming processed foods (along with cutting back my intake of cheese, etc. and sticking to a meal plan). I restricted myself even more than I had to, so instead of the planned eight months, I only had to do it for about 4-6. Then, once I had reached my weight goals and was sure my current weight would hold, I gradually started eating cheese again, then chocolate, then homemade sweet desserts (custard, rice pudding, cake) then the odd pastry, then non-bran breakfast cereal, then finally biscuits/cookies. At this point, I'm back to eating pretty much whatever I want, in sensible amounts. And I am still not any fatter - if anything, I am underweight.
You know what I haven't eaten or drank at all since? Fast food (other than a couple of trips to KFC with work colleagues and the occasional Subway Veggie Delite) fizzy drinks and crisps/chips. I've craved each of those exactly ONCE for fizzy drinks (and only because they were being handed out for free, and I can't resist free stuff) and twice for crisps, in six years. In all instances, I still did not grab them.
Also, before, I could demolish half a pack of biscuits/cookies in one sitting, and now, I'm perfectly fine with eating 2-3 at a time.

05.18.22 | My buddy got type 2 diabetes at 45 and had to change everything to put it in remission - lost about 4 stone, spends three or so hours walking EVERY day (he won't do the gym or anything that will make him work up a sweat), can only have a home made smoothie for lunch, low carb beer and only a few on special occasions, reduced his dairy, no sweets/chocolate/crisps/biscuits etc, strict carb intake generally

Personal experience. I've visited a reclusive hippie community that avoided corn consumption altogether, I'm talking maize in natural form and any byproduct. Their explanation was that it makes community members fight between each other for no rational reason. At first I was like "lol, it's from the drugs, these people are nutjobs", of course, hippies are nutjobs, but never underestimate their observational and deduction skills, especially under the effect of psychoactive substances. 2 weeks later I returned home and this idea stayed with me, so since then I've induced many people to consume corn-based foods just to observe their behaviors, without telling them anything about this potential side-effect. Guess what? Every time without question, my friends, colleagues, family members, ex-lovers and so on started acting like scumbags about 30 minutes after consuming it. Try it yourself. Polenta and corn flakes work best, they make everybody crazy angry, to the point of becoming violent, depending on their tolerance. It works fantastically with kids, feed them corn then prepare to fight them. |

I think it is wrong because if you mentally crave for the taste of animal products it can cause you to betray your morals and slip back into the old habits any time. There are some nice replacements for meat like seitan and pea protein based meats. The bigger problem is with cheese, since plant-based cheeses are very unhealthy (usually) and they don't even taste similar. Tofu is pretty cool I guess, but its uses are rather limited. Myself I'd rather quit eating pizza, lasagna and mac n' cheese altogether than lie for the rest of my life that the vegan versions are in any way tasty. I guess what I'm trying to criticize is when people convert to veganism, the first impulse they have is to find highly processed replacements for meat and cheese, instead of looking into more natural vegan recipes, which in my opinion are fabulous. 05.18.22 | Well, I eat vegan about 4-5 days a week. Other than my hatred for dairy consumption I am by no means a vegan. From time to time I do spice things up with chicken, eggs, salmon and other fish.
Vegan dishes I enjoy daily: buddha bowls, falafel wraps, dairy free salads, pancakes with squashed apples/banana/strawberries, guacamole, lentils/brown rice based bowls, miso soup but also East European vegetable soups, tapioca puddings, loving aubergine steaks, wild mushroom stews etc.
As snacks I consume mostly cauliflower "popcorn", low-fat potato chips, sunflower seeds (they're popular here in Spain), pumpkin seeds. |

I think the argument was that such findings haven't directed enough research considering the implications (for whatever reasons/due to whatever agendas), but maybe more studies have been done now, honestly I'm at peace with dairy as I don't have much of it now so it is a bit 'not my problem' from my perspective. My health improved a lot cutting it down though. |

I tell you, in the Asian diet we eat everything. A chicken, from the head, to the meat, to the guts, to the last drop of blood, we have it all! take vitamin C through the liver, cholesterol through the guts and iron through the blood, a chicken is definitely more than just the protein you get there.

Lately the internet is flooded with articles and studies that show a link between corn consumption and aggression. For me this is reassuring, as I made these discoveries myself 8-9 years ago but I only had anecdotal evidence and absolutely zero data to back it up.
Corn in any form is definitely a fucked food, avoid that shit like the plague if you want to remain mentally stable, or at least do not consume it before exams, interviews etc. BUT by far the worst mistake you can make is feeding your children products that contain corn, as they are particularly prone to become hyperaggressive. |

Ever since I've stopped consuming cereals / whole grains I have noticed three things: skin looks flawless, I am less sensitive to cold temperatures, my mind is never tired (I've started studying two programming languages besides my job out of pure curiosity - could be motivation, cause I already earn more than I can spend). These are just anecdotal conclusions from personal experience, but there is plenty of evidence that carbohydrates are useless to humans. Their role is essential when facing potential starvation like in the past during long winters. |

10.31.22 | An adult human body isn't actually equipped to handle dairy consumption. Milk is meant as a nutrient for babies to drink while their teeth and jaws develop, but once you can chew, you're supposed to slowly cut milk out of your diet. That's why so many adults are lactose intolerant, and so many more can't eat dairy without feeling constipated--because you are not really supposed to be ingesting it (honestly, consider yourself lucky if you're over 30 and can still ingest any dairy with no issues).
Every adult should also probably stop eating not just pork, but all red meat (and yes, despite the commercial, pork is not actually white meat). The FDA actually classifies red meat as carcinogens, as they can cause colon and rectal cancer if you eat too much of it in your lifetime. Google it.
Sugar is the real culprit of a BUNCH of issues that were blamed on fat in the US. We all know what sugar does, we all know how addictive sugar can be, we all know how corrupt and controlling the sugar industry is. Sadly...it's in fucking EVERYTHING that comes processed. If you actually manage to cut out sugar from your diet (without moving to Aspartame), you're probably eating only what you grow yourself.

10.31.22 | @Colton: It's nearly impossible at the end of the day not to consume at least 80g of carbs (unless you're an idiot and only eat meat or something), so any discussion is worthless. However, from my experience the less carbs I consume, the healthier I become. I have tons of energy, I live a rather active lifestyle, walk a lot, jog and I do heavy tennis-volley sessions every 2-3 days. I'm not dead yet and there's no visible fat on my body (I can show you if you want).
@Masochist: 1) Totally true, but you forget the most important aspect, that dairy is disgusting. Anyone not recognizing that and moving on to debate whether it is healthy or not is sick in the head to begin with.
2) Every week in my country (Spain) there are articles on people dying from infested pork meat. It is almost ALWAYS pork, extremely rarely any other type of meat. Not only that pig meat tissue retains a lot of dangerous toxins and bacteria, but it's also very parasite-rich compared to any other animal meat. The Bible and the Quran forbade it for a reason. Cancer is real a issue with pork and beef, yes, but BTW did you know that beef raises your estrogen levels like 10x more than they tell you soy does?
3) The secret to avoid sugar is to never consume processed products, that's it, that simple. Just buy lite meat, nuts, seeds, legumes and fruits and you will ingest NATURAL AMOUNTS of sugar. The only fruit that can have a SLIGHT negative effect on your health due to their high sugar are grapes, pineapples, mango, maybe bananas, and a few others, but only if you eat like a ton of them, 500g+ a day. |

@Masochist you never have to COMPLETELY cut out anything (with exeption of caffine, tho that can be needed for some). As for dairy, I'm only saying that you need the calcium, which you do. And dairy is high in it. You don't need much, unless your a child.
also a few things I'd like to add
1. The only two causes of bad liver are (a) an actuall disease and (b) SUGAR.
2. Corn is actually not too bad for you, it's just people LOAD it with things like bioengeneered rot-resistant spray. If you grow it yourself it's good for diets, unless you either need to lay off some carbs or you need to dump it with sugar to like it.

Yes, you gain a thing (calcium, potassium, whatever else is in dairy - don't care btw) and lose a hundred (heart health). There are at least 10 better sources of calcium than dairy. |
