JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Thanks guys.
"I’d pick ''The Carpet Crawlers'' from TLLDOB."
Carpet Crawlers is amazing but I prefer The Lamia, it's one of my favourite songs of all time.
@Chris: Yeah that's a beautiful one too. |
emester
03.19.14 | Like music was my least favorite track on 6 |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Ok. |

dh198
03.19.14 | Gotta love Bob Dylan. 3 and 8 are definitely two of his best. |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Thanks Atari. Sometimes I think Heavy Horses might be my favourite Tull album. Moths is definitely my favourite Tull song (and probably my favourite song of all time). |
KILL
03.19.14 | 2 and 12 so hard, not too familiar with the rest |
Friday13th
03.19.14 | Yeah "Moths" is great, though I thought the rest of Heavy Horses sounded a bit samey. I'll have to listen again. I'll also have to check out your Dylan picks. I suggest "Pretty Ballerina" by The Left Banke, "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys, and any number of awesome Yes tunes I'm sure you've heard. |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Thanks Cap. Agreed so hard with everything you've said about Unlocation.
@KILL: Not even the Fleetwood Mac tracks?
Check out 17 (the album) when you get a chance, pretty sure you'd dig it.
|
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | @Firday13th: Heavy Horses is easily one of my favourite albums of all time. It features some of the best song writing of all time imo. I personally don't find it samey at all, every song has something different to offer. It's definitely a grower, I didn't love it anyway near as much as I do now when I first heard it, it took quite a lot of listens before I began to fully appreciate it. |
joshuahuntkc
03.19.14 | I jammed 2 on vinyl yesterday. fun stuff.
10, 9 , 7 awesome

KILL
03.19.14 | nope ive only got then play on and s/t. and yea ive know about 17 for a while will def check. also been trying to get into tull more recently |
menawati
03.19.14 | 4 gets me every time |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | @KILL: Oh right, well you should get the Greatest Hits album on here at #4 (or this one: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/8908/Fleetwood-Mac-The-Best-of-Peter-Greens-Fleetwood-Mac/). A lot of Green's best songs were only released as singles. |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Same mena, I should probably delete the words "one of" in the description as I actually can't think of a sadder song, at least not one that hits me that hard. |
mandan
03.19.14 | Awesome list JT. |
KILL
03.19.14 | will do |

Friday13th
03.19.14 | @JamieTwort jamming Heavy Horses and I forgot how good the title track is. I'll probs bump it up. Thick as a Brick was an insta 5 for me but the rest have needed time. |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Yeah I found that pretty much all of Tull's best albums took time to fully appreciate, particularly Heavy Horses and A Passion Play. |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | sup foxxxy, love you too. |
Friday13th
03.19.14 | hey my bump to 4 raised the average! |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Nice, it's about time it went back up to 4. Still not high enough though. |

OmairSh
03.19.14 | Wouldn't be a JT list without Tull |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | A list of some of my all time favourite songs was always going to have some Tull.
and although this ranking is rough, 1 really is 1. |
Jethro42
03.19.14 | Lots of win on here |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Cheers Jethro. |
Ending
03.19.14 | maudlin of the Well - Birth Pains of Astral Projection
Fits every one of those descriptions. |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Not one of my all time favourites though. |
Ending
03.19.14 | That's fair I just saw an opportunity to fanboy so I took it.
Great list by the way. |
KILL
03.19.14 | surprised there isnt anything off the final cut here |

wacknizzle
03.19.14 | Great songs here, props for the Dylan tracks |
JamieTwort
03.19.14 | Thanks man. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
03.20.14 | welp. this super fab list title is my new 'real name' on sput |
YoYoMancuso
03.20.14 | Way to put one of the best Elliott songs on here. Tons of songs from that album always hit me right in the gut, especially the last four.
No Genesis songs really make me feel except for certain ones off Selling England and maybe Carpet Crawlers. |
MisterTornado
03.20.14 | fantastic list jamie. ugh i'm right there with you on 'days beginning at lunch' ... i melt every time (as with the rest of the tape) |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | lol potsy, I'm guessing you would have liked it more if it was an alliteration, right?
"No Genesis songs really make me feel except for certain ones off Selling England and maybe Carpet Crawlers."
There's a ton of songs on The Lamb that hit me really hard. The Lamia is probably the most beautifully surreal song I've ever heard. Nothing on Selling England really makes me 'feel' except Hackett's solo in Firth of Fifth.
Thanks Tornado. |
Rowan5215
03.20.14 | Genesis brings the emotions through the instrumentals not the lyrics
I rarely say that about anyone |
tommygun
03.20.14 | instrumental emotion is better agreed |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | Gabriel brings a lot of emotion through his lyrics and vocals on The Lamb though. |
Rowan5215
03.20.14 | "instrumental emotion is better agreed" nah but ok
Gabriel's lyrics are great and I love the Lamb's concept (what I can understand of it anyway) but it doesn't strike me as particularly moving |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | It just hasn't hit you yet. I read somewhere that Gabriel or Hackett (one of the band members anyway) said that it's an album that generally resonates with people the most when they're in their early twenties. |
Rowan5215
03.20.14 | Okay fair enough, maybe if it wasn't so completely out there I'd understand it better but that's part of the appeal |
Friday13th
03.20.14 | Supper's Ready brings the feels. "I've been so far far here. Far from your warm arms. It's good to feel you again. It's been a long long time...hasn't it." daaaaang |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | Yeah there's a lot of emotion in parts of Supper's Ready. The "and it's hello babe with your guardian eyes so blue..." part always gets me. |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | Nothing compares to The Lamia for me though. So beautiful and surreal. |
JS19
03.20.14 | Agreed with every one of these awesome list! |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | Thanks man. |
Rowan5215
03.20.14 | Oh yeah definitely agree with Supper's Ready
"The "and it's hello babe with your guardian eyes so blue..." part always gets me." that part is absolutely surreal
And another one is the "TOOOUCH MEEEE" at the end of the Musical Box which is probably my favourite moment on a Genesis song
But outside those I think its not about Gabriel's lyrics so much |
YoYoMancuso
03.20.14 | "Nothing on Selling England really makes me 'feel' except Hackett's solo in Firth of Fifth."
dude Moonlit Knight, More Fool Me, Cinema Show how do those not make you feel something
and yeah Musical Box and Salmacis hit me as well |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | It's mostly about Gabriel's lyrics on The Lamb but yeah outside of that album and those instances you mentioned, I see where you're coming from about the whole instrumentally emotional thing.
"dude Moonlit Knight, More Fool Me, Cinema Show how do those not make you feel something"
I guess they do to some extent but not in the way that the best songs on The Lamb do. |
Rowan5215
03.20.14 | But you'd be the one who was laughing
EXCEPT WHEN THINGS WEREN'T GOING YOUR WAY |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | That one actually doesn't do much for me at all. |
Faraudo
03.20.14 | You are missing every Walking The Cadaver record. |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | Funny! |
Rowan5215
03.20.14 | "That one actually doesn't do much for me at all."
I'm aware of this, don't know why though |
JamieTwort
03.20.14 | I'm hard to please sometimes. |

03.21.14 | Nice list JT.

@WS: Hope you enjoy some of these that you haven't already heard. |
osmark86
03.24.14 | really agree with you on "it's all over now (baby blue)". absolutely love that song. |
JamieTwort
03.24.14 | Have you heard The 13th Floor Elevators' cover of Baby Blue, osmark? It's from the album that #17 on this list is from coincidently. It hasn't quite got the magic of the original but it is a really good cover version. Easily one of my favourite cover songs. |
osmark86
03.24.14 | I haven't, will check that out mate. right away at that. |
