11.18.09 | The only good ones from that list are Dillinger Escape Plan and ETID.
Dec ones are PTW, MS.
The rest are just terrible.
Get Botch, Premonitions of War, Burnt By The Sun, Cave In, Coalesce, The Secret and for newer shit get Architects. |

11.18.09 | Well, based on the fact that this person digs Killswitch Engage, I figured August Burns Red and All That Remains were both right up his alley. Is that inaccurate in any way?
And I do hate the general sentiment on this site that only dissonent and first wave metalcore is good -- there's nothing wrong with having a little more metal in your 'core. I can definitely see calling those bands generic, but to be honest, All That Remains helped create that sound so they really aren't all THAT generic.
It's like people have a problem with harmonized or melodic riffs when it comes to metalcore.
And Poison the Well are more than decent, they're one of the better heavy bands of the past 10-12 years. |

11.18.09 | check out The Arusha Accord, they just came out with a solid debut full length. Unearth rule pretty hard, August Burns Red, Misery Signals and I can get down to some Parkway (take it for what it is). Maybe you'd dig As I Lay Dying since you like Killswitch? An Ocean Between us is alright. Botch is where it's at. All the bands recc'd here are pretty tasty so enjoy man |

11.18.09 | As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us
All Shall Perish - The Price of Existence |

it's more because the bands from the late 90's had more personality. you can find 100 bands that sound like Unearth (even though I love me some unearth) but I'll be damned if you can confuse Coalesce with anyone else. |

Botch - We Came As Romans
Coalesce - any album
Cave In - Until Your Heart Stops
Every Time I Die - Hot Damn
Thats where you want to start with metalcore, and some would argue thats where you want to end too. A lot of metalcore just sounds cheesy as all hell, like 80s metal with breakdowns. I can dig some of it, like August Burns Red and Unearth, but its really not the best the genre has to offer. Remember metalcore is supposed to be metal and hardcore fused, and stuff that leans closer to hardcore is generally a lot better. |
Inveigh
11.18.09 | ^I see what you mean in regards to that. I definitely think Botch, Coalesce, Converge, Poison the Well and Dillinger have much more personality these days than Unearth or Killswitch Engage, although I wouldn't necessarily fault those bands for that. It just so happens that the style of metalcore Unearth or KsE play is much more easily immitated; or even that since the Iron Maiden and Metallica influences made these bands so much more commercially viable that it's just natural that more bands would copy their style and therefore take some of the personality away from said bands.
Thanks for giving me a rationale response and not just saying I'm a douche or idiot or something. |

true but dissonance doesn't always equal personality. I like me some Darkest Hour and Unearth any day though lol |

11.18.09 | i'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the more popular bands in the genre. personally, i love a lot of them. the only problem with the current crop of bands that are leading the genre is parity. There are the bands that do it well and then a sea of leaches below them. You gotta wade through the bullshit. |

11.19.09 | I agree with what Inveigh has to say. I think that the first wave of metalcore (botch, ptw, cave in, dillinger, etc) are great but I can't figure out why everyone on this site is always ripping the newer metalcore bands to shreds because they dont sound like botch. Ive listened to that stuff for like ten years and it does get old and sometimes it is cool to listen to something new and different. Although I will say that the genre has become flooded with some seriously crappy bands, but there are some new metalcore bands that stand out. |
witchxrapist
11.21.09 | those bands are "first wave metalcore?" lololol
crazy, considering unbroken, starkweather, converge, indecision, aftershock, and overcast were all around almost a decade before all those bands |
