| Need Some Sput-Help
What's good Sputnik? Over the past year or so, I've found myself at a different place than I've ever been in my life musically - lost and unexcited. It's a weird feeling, because I play 4 instruments, write all kinds of music, and had always walked around throughout my day with a song going on in my head. Lately, this hasn't been the case, and I'll find myself listening to podcasts and talk radio in the car more so than I will listening to music. I'm 26 now, so obviously my tastes and interests as a person have led me to changing the habits I once had in my teens and college years regarding music, but I feel like I'm in a very odd spot right now with my relationship to music. That said, I'd love some recs.
As you can see from my profile, I've got a relatively eclectic music taste (not compared to some of you, obviously, but I'll give mostly anything a chance). What I will say I've noticed is that I gravitate most strongly towards music that has infectious melodies and, when stripped down from all its bells and whistles, would just be great SONGS (i.e. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea would be great as just an acoustic album, etc.). Here's a list of albums I truly dig and find super melodic and just flat-out enjoyable to listen to. I don't want "dumbed down" music for the sake of melody, but just something that can potentially get me reinvigorated to a part of life I once loved.
tldr: recs plz. | 1 | | The Flaming Lips Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
I love the whole album, but Yoshimi (pt. 1), Ego Tripping, Fight Test are really the type of tracks I'm going for rec-wise. | 2 | | The Beatles Abbey Road
I'm also a sucker at times (most times) for cool album structures (see Abbey Road medley). | 3 | | Jeff Rosenstock Worry.
I'm also a sucker at times (most times) for cool album structures (see WORRY. medley). | 4 | | Weezer Weezer | 5 | | Phantom Planet The Guest | 6 | | Vampire Weekend Modern Vampires of the City
Mainly the first four tracks of this album slay ballllls. | 7 | | Electric Light Orchestra A New World Record | 8 | | The Offspring Americana
With the joke songs aside, a lot of the album cuts on this thing are simply great tunes. | 9 | | Ben Folds Five Whatever and Ever, Amen | |

07.09.17 | I know that feel man and I think I got some of just what you're looking for:
autolux - future perfect (slightly shoegazey/noisy alt rock w style)
pinback - summer in abaddon (chill, densely layered indie rock)
pj harvey - stories from the city, stories from the sea (kickass straightforward alt rock)
angel olsen - burn your fire for no witness (slightly lo-fi indie folk/rock)
marika hackman - we slept at last (folk-rock w subtle electronic flourishes, can be dark at times but the melodies are always amazingly strong)
and if you haven't heard The National yet, get on that as well. Start with Alligator and keep going

07.09.17 | I am gonna go with Emma Ruth Rundle. Any album. | bgillesp
07.09.17 | Pinback [2]!! I haven't checked Summer in Abbadon but Blue Screen Life is amazing.
Devin Townsend- Ocean Machine: Biomech
Also, for an obscure rec, Rainbow Kitten Surprise- Seven + Mary (Seven was rereleased with the EP Mary attached and is better that way) | bgillesp
07.09.17 | But yeah, good luck figuring out a direction. Don't force anything, but trying out different stuff in terms of music might could bring some excitement back into it for you | SandwichBubble
07.09.17 | @sublimefan1991 Something like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmZQpbNK7t4
also, rating Sum41 above Hendrix is your problem. Remedy that and music in your world will begin to make sense ;) | AsleepInTheBack
07.09.17 | The Hotelier - Goodness: pretty minimalist indie rock with lovely poetic lyricism, some interesting repeating melodies and themes, and just really damn catchy if you let it take you.
The Microphones - The Glow Pt2: if you enjoy the aesthetic and lyrical style of something like neutral milk hotel then you should find something to love about this, though it is more experimental and odd. Really interesting album composition too. Like my other rec this is also full of beautiful melodies, once you strip off all the fuzz and bells and whistles, so should be along the lines of what you asked for. | sublimefan1991
07.09.17 | Awesome, thank you guys for all the help! Will check some of these out for sure. | AsleepInTheBack
