| The Evolution Of Steel Erect's Musical Progression
I thought I would go through my musical evolution as a tween through my now 27th year of
being alive. Before we had the internet, I used to do blind purchases or I would look at the
bands that my favorite bands thanked in their booklet and check them out. Also, older friends
helped improve my taste widely. I am bored and thought this would be fun to look back on. I
hope some of you enjoy and get a doozy out of this. | 1 | | MC Hammer Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em
These next four albums described my 7-10 years old discovery of music from radio and MTV when they
actually played music videos. | 2 | | MC Hammer Too Legit to Quit
I wanted the Hammer pants | 3 | | Kriss Kross Totally Krossed Out
I even wore my pants backwards to school once, that was hilarious. | 4 | | Tag Team Whoop! (There It Is)
I can't believe U got down to this. | 5 | | The Offspring Smash
These next few albums I bought with my allowance. I will say about 11-13. I went through somewhat of
a rap phase, pop rock phase, and discovered some metal. | 6 | | Green Day Dookie | 7 | | Weezer The Blue Album | 8 | | Mobb Deep Hell on Earth | 9 | | Snoop Dogg Tha Doggfather | 10 | | Insane Clown Posse Riddle Box
Yes, I liked them when I was 13..... | 11 | | Korn Life is Peachy
Then, when I used to get dropped off at the mall with my friends, yes, I was a mallrat for a time too. I
discovered two albums that lead me down the more metal side of things. | 12 | | Deftones Adrenaline | 13 | | Limp Bizkit Three Dolla Bill Y'all | 14 | | Rage Against the Machine Evil Empire | 15 | | Incubus S.C.I.E.N.C.E | 16 | | Snot Get Some | 17 | | System of a Down System of a Down | 18 | | Alice In Chains Dirt
Then, my sister's boyfriend left behind three albums that lead to me wanting to be a guitarist. This album
definitely right here pushed it really far for me. | 19 | | Soundgarden Superunknown | 20 | | Pearl Jam Ten
Then, like some of the other bands listed, nu metal was a big part of my high school years until about my
senior year in 2001 before it got really stale to my ears. But here were a few more of my favorites in early
high school. | 21 | | Coal Chamber Coal Chamber | 22 | | Sevendust Sevendust | 23 | | Tool Aenima | 24 | | Helmet Meantime | 25 | | Opeth Still Life
About end of Junior and Senior of High school is when I started getting into heavier stuff because the
music store I always went to...they told me get the fuck away from mattress metal. | 26 | | Immortal Damned in Black | 27 | | Acid Bath Paegan Terrorism Tactics | 28 | | Morbid Angel Covenant | 29 | | Soilent Green Sewn Mouth Secrets | 30 | | Pantera The Great Southern Trendkill | 31 | | Testament Low | 32 | | At the Gates With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness
At about 20, a friend introduced to death metal from Sweden, which I loved. | 33 | | Dismember Death Metal | 34 | | Edge of Sanity Purgatory Afterglow | 35 | | In Flames Jester Race | 36 | | Soilwork Natural Born Chaos | 37 | | Garden of Shadows Oracle Moon | 38 | | Ebony Tears Handful of Nothing | 39 | | Down Nola
Then, in my mid 20s, I went through a huge stoner rock, 60s psychedelic, doom phase. | 40 | | Roachpowder Viejo Diablo | 41 | | Orange Goblin The Big Black | 42 | | Spiritual Beggars Ad Astra | 43 | | Kyuss Welcome to Sky Valley | 44 | | Deep Purple In Rock | 45 | | Ten Years After Ssssh | 46 | | Witchcraft Witchcraft | 47 | | Pentagram First Daze Here: The Vintage Collection
The are more to be named off these genres that I named off, but these albums I remember impacted my
life at a time. | 48 | | Electric Wizard Come My Fanatics | 49 | | Sleep Sleep's Holy Mountain | 50 | | Nasum Shift
Then, my love for grind and brutal death metal came back. And I still listen to a bunch of other shit that I
forgot about. Man, I left about a bunch actually, but this is a good timeline. | |

06.06.10 | This was kind of a fun road down memory lane. A lot of these records I still love, some records I love weren't mentioned, and some of these I just laugh at, but all in all. It has been a fun journey through my love of a music. | FadeToBlack
06.06.10 | steel erection | SteelErectedb4you8er
06.06.10 | Oh baby! That is my lastfm and soulseek name. | FadeToBlack
06.06.10 | k just added you on last.fm

06.06.10 | Hell yeah man. That EW record makes me feel stoned without being stoned. I love it. | FadeToBlack
06.06.10 | do u have Nasum's Helvete? imo thats their best | SteelErectedb4you8er
06.06.10 | Yeah, I do. I love that record. Scoop! Nasum was just awesome. Rotten Sound is my new favorite replacement since they will never be around again. Added to lastfm list. | greg84
06.06.10 | Your musical progression seems to be really similar to mine. Of course, with a few exceptions. I'm going through a stoner rock phase right now. Does it mean that I'll begin to listen to grind and death metal within 2 years? I guess, yes. Besides, I like to think that I'm getting more versatile with age. | Metalstyles
06.06.10 | List reminded me that you're still yet to send me that Roachpowder album ;) | SteelErectedb4you8er
06.06.10 | Haha, I forgot metalstyles. I will do what I can. You have soulseek? Greg, yeah, I mean, I don't only listen to metal myself, it just what I listen to the most. Yeah, I would say that my musical taste is quite diverse or versatile. | greg84
06.06.10 | I just like to say it that's diverse haha. I guess I'm equally into rock, alternative and metal nowadays. Or at least my last.fm account says it. This Roachpowder album is really good. I'm listening to it right now. | SteelErectedb4you8er
06.06.10 | Yeah dude. Where did you find it? I have been meaning to get it for metalstyles. I bought it on stonerock.com. It's gotta a lot of down influence in it, and the riffs are great. They have another album that is really good too called Atomic Church that I like a lot as well. | greg84
06.06.10 | It's one of the shitload of stoner rock albums I've downloaded recently. I guess it's from one of the blogs I regularly check for new releases. As for stoner/desert rock, I definitely recommend the new Fatso Jetson album. I even wrote a review for this one. Besides, the Icelandic act The Brain Police is rad. Plus, of course I can't stop listening to Dozer releases. | Dryden
06.07.10 | sleeeeeeeeep | random
10.08.10 | What the hell is up with all of ICP's album covers? | eternium
10.08.10 | I'm still a teenager and I love most of what you found in your 20's. Nice progression btw. |
