CONGRATULATIONS, You're A Winner

The night of my birthday (11/11/11 aka VETERANS DAY aka NATIONAL METAL DAY m/ m/ m/ m/ ) I went to this pretty cool bar in Philly called the Ravens Lounge. That night they were doing some kind of contest where you could win a free happy hour for you and 20 friends. Just got the email - I'm a winner. And this time it's not my mom saying it so it makes it real RIGHT? RIGHT?!?
1Azarath
Diabolic Impious Evil

Before Blasphemer's Maledictions Azarath was not only a brutal death metal act but one of the best at that. While their first album was only okay, everything after that has been pretty fucking awesome and Diabolic Impious Evil definitely represents the pinnacle of that era of their music. Inferno's drumming is absolutely ridiculous, and the band as a whole definitely pushed for a more technical route in addition to the relentless aggression.
2Gyibaaw
Ancestral War Hymns

Recently featured on a split with the mighty Mitochondrion, Gyibaaw are also a blackened death metal from Canada (there must be something in the water up there) and quite a good one at that. In a style somewhat similar to contemporaries such as Mitochondrion, Portal and other blackened death metal of the ilk, Gyibaaw's sound comes of as all over the place at first but after listens the genius starts to set in and you realize how tightly structured each song is. Definitely a band to keep your eye on.
3Deceased
Luck of the Corpse

Deceased's second best album (after Fearless Undead Machines) Luck of the Corpse is a great exercise if death/thrash with emphasis on the death. "Fading Survival" is such a classic opener and overall these guys crafted an album that fused death metal's burgeoning speed and death growls with thrash styled guitarwork.
4Young and In The Way
I Am Not What I Am

I've seen this band getting a lot of attention and I'm not quite getting it. There are plenty of other bands combining hardcore and black metal better. These guys are boring as fuck.
5The Hope and The Failure
The Lights Are on But This Dance Never Ends

To anyone who thought was that Mahria album was actually something special: This>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> That.
6Heart on My Sleeve
Blood is Not Thicker Than Wine

Re: The Hope and The Failure
7The Weeknd
House of Balloons

"Wicked Games" is still my song of the year.
8Angelcorpse
Exterminate

Seriously, these guys could use a little more dick sucking around here.
