Saw Kurt Travis last night

and I'm seeing him tonight. Last night was magical though.

Are You Even There At All?

I'm not a huge I, The Mighty fan, but fucking hell this dude can SING. I would say his voice rivals any pop singer and his songs had a nice R&B feel that complimented his range and control. Very good.
2Televangelist
Wild, Jealous, Youth

Listen, I can't knock these guys on technical ability - they seem like they could play circles around literally anyone - but like, they just really weren't that engaging? They weren't "bad" by any means, I just couldn't get into what they were doing.
3Makari
Hyperreal

I missed their entire set lmao.
4Eternity Forever
Fantasy

For being as chill of a dude as he is, Kurt has such a magnetic stage presence. The moment he got on stage and started setting up, the whole room got quiet while we just gawked at him fiddling with random pedals and making sure all his shit was plugged in. The first song he did was "The Boys Are Back In Town" which was fine, but SHIITTTT, when he jumped into the Eternity Forever material I lost my mind. Any performance I've seen Kurt at before he's sounded *pretty* good, but shit, he was SPOT ON for all the EF material which i find to be particularly impressive given vocally that material is a bit more all over the place. Televangelist played as his backing band, and seemed more interested in playing his material than they had their own, and Andy Cizek from Makari came up for his birthday to duet on "Movies" and ahhhhhh the way they harmonized was so perfect. It was amazing to finally see the songs from the project performed live.

Wha Happen?

I'm not too too familiar with some of Kurt's solo stuff, but when he played "No Apologies" I fucking lost my shit.

His encore was a medley of "Hot Water on Wool" (and the reprise), "Uneasy Hearts...", and "Strawberry Swisher Pt.II" and honestly, I fucking cried. Though i was having the time of my fucking life throughout his whole set, it wasn't until he started playing the DGD material that the whole experience REALLY started to set in. I don't want to say I forgot how much Kurt Travis and his music has meant to me over the years, but when you're an adult, working all the time and just being busy in general, things like that get lost. Last night they were front and center again, and it was nice to bask in the moment. It was all topped off by him handing me the mic for a part of "Strawberry Swisher" and his genuinely happy smile and reaction to me singing the words (albeit my voice already being blown out by that point). Kurt is the people's person, a fucking treasure, and I can't recommend going to see him hard enough. 15/10 concert.
