25 Greatest Country Songs

In Western Minnesota, you are born 25% shit kicker. For most of younger days, I resisted the onslaught of country and western music like the plague. One day, I gave in a little, leading to a little dabbling in the finest honky tonk, sister fucking music available. All of these are essentials if you like even a hint of country, and some of them are downright essential regardless if you are a metal head or a limp wristed hipster elitist. Enjoy.
1Johnny Cash
Cocaine Blues

Any song about shooting your wife after doing blow wins. Greatest country song, ever.
2Charlie Daniels
The Devil Went Down to Georgia

Most of you probably only know it from Guitar Hero 3.
3Garth Brooks
The Thunder Rolls

This time, its the old lady who does the shooting (at least in the lost verse). Chilling song.
4Kenny Rogers
The Gambler

Probably the greatest country sing along chorus ever
5The Blues Brothers
Rawhide

We got both kinds of music here, country and western.
6Willie Nelson
Poncho & Lefty

Once you get past the cheesy elevator synth intro, its one of the greatest country songs of all time. Seriously, though, fuck the intro.
7Hank Williams Jr.
A Country Boy Can Survive

Probably the greatest country lyric of all time: "I'd like to spit some Beech Nut in that dude's eye, and shoot him with my old .45 cause a Country Boy Can Survive."
8David Allen Coe
You Never Even Called Me By My Name

Well I was drunk the day my mama got out of prison.
9Waylon Jennings
Dukes of Hazard Theme

JUST A GOOD OLD BOY, NEVER MEANIN NO HARM. YEE-FUCKING-HAW!
10Alabama
Dixieland Delight

One of the best bands in the country an western genre.
11Johnny Cash
Folsom Prison Blues

Pretty much what launched his legend.
12Willie Nelson
My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

And they still are it seems. Good drinking/campfire song.
13Garth Brooks
Friends in Low Places

I like to show up at places in boots, its cool.
14Alan Jackson
Midnight in Montgomery

Song about Hank Sr's ghost. And whiskey.
15Merle Haggard
Mama Tried

One of the few Merle songs not exclusively about whiskey.
16Alabama
Song of the South

Sing along classic.
17Hank Williams Jr.
Family Tradition

Don't ask me Hank why do you drink? HANK, why do you roll smoke?
18Clint Black
Killin' Time

Drinkin myself Bliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind, thinkin I won't see.
19Johnny Cash
A Boy Named Sue

MY NAME IS SUE, HOW DO YOU DO! NOW YOU GONNA DIE.
20Blake Shelton
Austin

Newest one on the list, one of the best country ballads.
21Willie Nelson
Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain

Another campfire song from Willie.
22Johnny Cash
I Walk the Line

What pretty much every married dude does.
23Garth Brooks
The Dance

Probably the greatest country ballad ever.

Here's a Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares

Great song to play for an ex girlfriend.

Great song about fighting.
