Favorite Metal Albums
I'm bored as fuck so here are my favorite metal albums somewhat in
order. |
1 | | Emperor In The Nightside Eclipse
My favorite album in metal, and I daresay in any genre. A spectacular and
majestic opus. |
2 | | Neurosis Through Silver in Blood
Fucking huge music. Given To The Rising also rules. |
3 | | Ulver Bergtatt |
4 | | Death Symbolic
Best Death album in my opinion, and that's saying a hell of a lot. |
5 | | Bathory Blood Fire Death
Probably the only album on this list that the "true" kids won't hate me for, this
is a masterpiece; as vile and savage as it is epic and glorious, nearly melancholic
at times in its feral longing for times long gone. |
6 | | Morbid Angel Altars of Madness
I've always fantasized about showing this record to Beethoven and seeing the
bewildered, confused and yet somehow proud look on his face. |
7 | | Enslaved Isa
This record is so dense, compositionally and sound-wise as well, it's damn near
impenetrable. |
8 | | Electric Wizard Dopethrone |
9 | | Gris Il Etait Une Foret...
My favorite contemporary black metal album/band, these guys manage to make
music that is interesting and daring while utilizing everything that's cool about
black metal perfectly. |
10 | | Gojira The Way of All Flesh
Just listen to it. |
11 | | Agalloch The Mantle
This album changed the way I looked at music, and it introduced me to a
thousand possibilities I had never even considered. Beautiful music. |
12 | | Burzum Filosofem
The darkest most nihilistic and grim record in all of black metal. In contrast to
most of the stuff I've put on here this wins because of its stark, minimalistic
approach. |
13 | | Isis Oceanic
The grooves. They're massive. |
14 | | Wolves In The Throne Room Two Hunters
It's too bad they kinda wussed out on really experimenting with dense
compositions, they were on to something truly amazing. |
15 | | Cryptopsy None So Vile |
16 | | Primordial To The Nameless Dead
Best "pagan" metal band, by far. Shit is epic. |
17 | | Weakling Dead as Dreams
The Wagnerian ideal taken to its logical, destructive, brilliant and cathartic
conclusion. |
18 | | Immortal At The Heart of Winter
The undisputed gods of the riff. |
19 | | Moonsorrow Kivenkantaja
I'm not usually into bagpipes and flutes in my metal, but these guys pull it off
by making it sound genuine, dangerous and dark, and by writing some fucking
brilliant songs. |
20 | | Mastodon Leviathan
I think that someone's trying to kill me! |
