10.20.10 | Since the release of The Final Frontier, this is my most anticipated release. |
Apollo
10.20.10 | when is it coming out? |
jingledeath
10.20.10 | idiot |
AngelofDeath
10.20.10 | It will rule. It's Opeth.
Anyone who thought Watershed was disappointing can go suck a pole. |
SCREAM!
10.20.10 | i hope they dont pursue the watershed direction. But either way opeth is pretty synonimous with quality |
maidenpmcc
10.20.10 | I thought Watershed was briliant, it was the album that converted me into a fan. Mikael is looking the new album to be released next year, he's currently writing songs for it. |
fr33convict
10.20.10 | Watershed was awesome. I just hope they don't continue down that road anymore. |
Apollo
10.20.10 | from what I read Mikael is still writing the album and hopes to have it out in 2011. I usually wait to post a 'hey guys I think the new _____ album is going to rock' list until there is more of a set time. |
AngelofDeath
10.20.10 | Mikael's tastes and influences are constantly broadening and evolving, so you never really know what the next album's gonna sound like til you hear it. |
FadeToBlack
10.20.10 | hopefully it will be better than watershed |
Greggers
10.20.10 | Gonna rule |
maidenpmcc
10.20.10 | He stated the album's genre should be progressive death metal as usual. |
AngelofDeath
10.20.10 | Which tells us absolutely nothing. |
SCREAM!
10.20.10 | Watershed can hardly be considered that other than heir apparent |
FadeToBlack
10.20.10 | not to get into genres and shit but opeth arent really progressive death metal |
maidenpmcc
10.20.10 | It does tell not so familiar fans that there is no Damnation type album coming again in the horizon. |
Foxhound
10.20.10 | Not really but that's only cause Opeth suck |
Willie
10.20.10 | Absolutely not. I think they're stuck in a rut and will be until they higher a producer again. |
SCREAM!
10.20.10 | but then again before watershed he had promissed opeth's most intense and technical album to date. So his word isnt really worth shit |
maidenpmcc
10.20.10 | I think he was just referring to Heir Apparent when he stated that...... |
fr33convict
10.20.10 | Watershed is definitely their most confusing and experimental album. |
McCopper
10.20.10 | "Anyone who thought Watershed was disappointing can go suck a pole."
Fucking this... |
tiesthatbind
10.20.10 | Watershed gets too much hate. |
Foxhound
10.20.10 | No Opeth sucks in general. Long winded predictable crap. haha but that's just my homo opinion and I'm probably one of the few who feel that way towards them. so yeah, flame me lol |
AngelofDeath
10.20.10 | I would say it is actually one of their most technical albums. As far as "intense," maybe not so much. Looking back on it, I consider Orchid to be their most "technical" album, though it's not one of the best. |
fr33convict
10.20.10 | YEAH THAT'S JUST YOUR HOMO OPINION SO STFU N00B. |
FadeToBlack
10.20.10 | except it is. edit: @ angel |
Willie
10.20.10 | Even the really good Opeth songs have sections that feel like they were just tacked on for song length purposes (except Demon of the Fall, that song rocks). |
maidenpmcc
10.20.10 | Orchid had a more raw production to it and it's my least favourite album but it's still great. I personally think Heir Apparent is the most heaviest and "intense" song they have ever done. |
FadeToBlack
10.20.10 | karma |
witchxrapist
10.20.10 | Opeth is dead to me. They would be good if they still had Peter and Martin (Lopez) and never got Per and stuck to the style on Damnation. That being said, that's not at all the path they followed, so no hopes whatsoever. |
AngelofDeath
10.20.10 | I'd rank it in the middle of their discog Fade, though it does contain my favorite Opeth song and one of my favorite songs of all time: The Twilight Is My Robe. |
ti0n
10.20.10 | Damnation on first? oO Blackwater Park should be one. |
Hawks
10.20.10 | Watershed was far from brilliant. It's great yeah, but not brilliant by any means. |
Sowing
10.20.10 | anything they do will probably be great |
fr33convict
10.20.10 | ti0n: why do you think the list is ranked? |
coneren
10.20.10 | I hear the next album will be gangster rap |
witchxrapist
10.20.10 | Damnation & My Arms Your Hearse > Still Life > Blackwater Park > Morningrise & Orchid > Deliverence >>>>> Ghost Reveries >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Watershed.
Generic Opeth fan post. |
MO
10.20.10 | I think Watershed was more of an experiment which gave the new members of the band something they were familiar with so they could slowly get brought into such a diverse band. Mike using blastbeats and faster solos are examples of this. I have been an Opeth fan for a long time and anyone saying Watershed was bad needs to get their heads examined. Akerfeldt has said many times that Opeth can never be just one thing, otherwise it wouldn't be Opeth. Normally change in a band isn't good cause they're selling out or leading to a popier sound, but I'm always open to Opeth's changes since they've been doing it for so long and its always been good. |
Spec
10.20.10 | It will rule. |
Gmork89
10.20.10 | Watershed was good in all respects, but I did miss the older Opeth sound. |
witchxrapist
10.20.10 | Mike isn't the drummer Metallic, and they had fast solos on Orchid. |
witchxrapist
10.20.10 | Watershed was good in all aspects? Really? Like the songwriting aspect? rofffffllllll. |
Gmork89
10.20.10 | I said in all "respects", meaning it wasn't a bad album in general, just not as "Opeth" sounding as I would have liked. |
McCopper
10.20.10 | "Watershed was far from brilliant. It's great yeah, but not brilliant by any means."
And I thought I liked you... |
BallsToTheWall
10.20.10 | Watershed is the only thing they've put out that I consider to be excellent. |
maidenpmcc
10.20.10 | BallsToTheWall, why are you familiar? Oh yes, my first review.
Anyway you don't like BWP or SL, not even GR? |
MO
10.21.10 | I meant in the songwriting Mike incorporated blastbeats, I know he's not the drummer witch. Watershed was good, the songwriting is fine, what is so bad about it? Heir apparent, Hessian Peel and Burden are amazing. I'll admit Lotus Eater is weak though. |
Willie
10.21.10 | My main problem with this band is that their music seems to be more and more thrown together with each album. Listen to the early stuff (even up to Blackwater Park) compared to the last few albums. Those earlier albums were easily more cohesive even though they had the same amount of random sections in them. |
SCREAM!
10.21.10 | What willie, GR is as good or better as any of their older albums except still life |
Willie
10.21.10 | I just listened to Ghost Reveries yesterday and that one is one of the worst offenders of tacked on, repetitive sections. The first song is great but after that things stop gelling as well. Don't get me wrong, when that album is good it is near perfect, but when they hit a rut they seem to sit in it for awhile. |
qwe3
10.21.10 | whoevers praising damnation stop it now that albums so shit |
AnotherBrick
10.21.10 | but dude. damnation is the best |
McCopper
10.21.10 | "I'll admit Lotus Eater is weak though."
erk... |
TheSpirit
10.21.10 | Yeah so Ghost of Perdition and Bleak are the only two Opeth songs that REALLY matter. |
qwe3
10.21.10 | the moor |
TheSpirit
10.21.10 | The Moor is acceptable as well |
Willie
10.21.10 | Demon of the Fall, Ghost of Perdition, Bleak, Godhead's Lament and Windowpane |
TheSpirit
10.21.10 | "Ghost..." is easily my top Opeth song. |
Dis_Con_Nec_Ted
10.21.10 | Wouldn't say high hopes but I'm excited to say the least. Mostly regarding the direction the album will take. I'm predicting just as much clean vocals as on Watershed, if not more. Ã…kerfeldt's growls have started getting weaker the last coulple of years so I'm thinking he may not be using them a lot. But Opeth have shown earlier that they can make a great record without harsh vocals.
|
qwe3
10.21.10 | ghost of perdition at like 3:44 is one of my fav opeth moments |
fr33convict
10.21.10 | His growl sounded a bit better than before on Ghost Reveries IMO. |
witchxrapist
10.21.10 | April Ethereal and Karma are my two fave heavy (Opeth) songs.
Patterns In The Ivy II is my favesie altogether thooo |
witchxrapist
10.21.10 | "His growl sounded a bit better than before on Ghost Reveries IMO. "
imo sounded best on mayh |
BallsToTheWall
10.21.10 | Maybe Akerfeldt should just leave Opeth and bring Katatonia up to speed with their older material. |
fr33convict
10.21.10 | imo sounded best on mayh
His range as a whole was kind of weak then. |
AngelofDeath
10.21.10 | Yeah, probably not a coincidence Brave Murder Day is their best album. |
SCREAM!
10.21.10 | Sounds Of Decay EP might be the best Katatonia release. Sounds like a doomier morningrise |
Crysis
10.21.10 | If Watershed was any indication this will be bland and boring and more of the same old same old |
TheSpirit
10.21.10 | Needs moar aggression |
Gmork89
10.21.10 | Needs less "prog" time wasting is what it needs. |
qwe3
10.21.10 | i'm not |
FadeToBlack
10.21.10 | "Yeah so Ghost of Perdition and Bleak are the only two Opeth songs that REALLY matter."
brandumb |
MO
10.21.10 | Bleak is ok, prefer Blackwater Park, Leper Affinity and Funeral Portrait from that album. It'd be great if this new Opeth album were a bit heavier, but judging from Royal Albert Hall Live Mike's growls are starting to give a little...but we'll see. |
SCREAM!
10.21.10 | lol good one fade |
maidenpmcc
10.23.10 | @ qwe3, Damnation is an amazing album. It was a one off album and they will never do it again but it bloody worked and if they tried it again, it would be dam right successful.
