09.03.14 | I can't believe you thought Iron Man 3 was worse than 2 |
LepreCon
09.03.14 | Iron Man 3 was worse because it sucked balls and had no charm or basically anything good that the first one had. At least the 2nd tried, albeit badly |

09.03.14 | "2 is 1 because Jeff Bridges made an amazing villain"
Bridges was awesome. best one-off villain in the MCU. |

09.03.14 | I actually really liked Cap 1 especially when it first came out. I'd say it's my 2nd fav Phase One movie behind Iron Man. Hugo Weaving as Red Skull was pretty cool, i'd love to see him show up again sometime. |
Sevengill
09.03.14 | Once More 'Round the Sun was pretty solid. "Tread Lightly" has such a boss groove to it. |

09.03.14 | The first captain America film was pretty average so I'm having a really hard time believing all the praise the sequel is getting. |
Typhoner
09.03.14 | I'm a bit tired of the MCU thing, with some of the movies just being set-ups or epilogues to an Avengers movie. That's probably why I liked Guardians that much, which I would put at #1 for now (yes, I know that eventualy The Guardians will probably also become part of an Avengers plot, but for now it's just a fun space adventure)
Still, MCU movies are usually worth a watch. |
LepreCon
09.03.14 | scott Cap 2 is so much better there's literally no comparison.
@typhoner well there's like nine months til Avengers 2 so maybe it's good to have a break from them |
Friday13th
09.03.14 | agree with top 4 and #10 hard! I thought Iron Man 3 was really bad especially since they took out all the classic rock haha. Good work |
menawati
09.03.14 | "The first captain America film was pretty average so I'm having a really hard time believing all the praise the sequel is getting."
It's MUCH better than the first one. It's marvel of course so a bubblegum plot but at least a plot that tries to address something meaningful instead of just the latest villain of the week. Also some great little action sequences and it flows really well. |

09.03.14 | Once the hype dies down, I'm fairly certain that Guardians will still be the No. 1 MCU movie for me.
What makes it for me is the fact that the Avengers arc had half a dozen movies to establish its characters before the big
extravaganza. When the movie finally comes around, I didn't really feel much investing chemistry between most of the
characters. It all felt flaccid and metallic with how everyone interacted with each other, like they were all there based
purely on the fact that the film title dictates they have to be there. Other than that, I generally just am not that into
some of the characters' personalities or arcs regardless of the film, like Stark or Thor or whatever four lines
they gave Samuel L. Jackson. Still a good movie, but that was moreso for the action and jokes.
Meanwhile, Guardians comes barging in without any background or franchise behind it and delivers a set of characters who
are not only endearing, not only have tightly-knit chemistry, not only are vastly more human that any of the Avengers, but
leave far more of an impression once you're done watching their plights and struggles come into fruition. And it does this
amongst exhilarating action sequences and a buttload of quaint, blunt jokes that never feel phoned-in or forced,
respectively.
This might just come down to me preferring the treatment of characters over plots or action or comedy, but the fact that
Guardians pulls all that off by its lonesome and above the shitload of Avengers films puts it on top for me. |

ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | Sorry, but the avengers was horrendously predictable and cheesy. At least GOTG had more character and charisma to it |
Apollo
10.01.14 | Your entitled to your opinion. I just personally don't get how someone can think the Avengers was 'horrible'. I get if someone didn't really like it, but there are enough redeeming factors to at least garner it a small measure of respect. It was humourous, well shot and directed, Scarlett Johannson (enough said there, as a redhead no less), and the last action sequence in NYC was just a straight thrill ride. Seeing it in theatre makes the difference to really appreciate how epic it was imho. |
titanslayer
10.01.14 | "Superhero films are horrible things, with exception to Watchmen, The Dark Knight and surprisingly, Guardians of the Galaxy"
I don't know how anyone can take the dark knight seriously |
ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | I don't know, it just annoyed me. The one liners made me cringe, the predictability of it made it pretty boring for me its "epicness" simply didn't feel epic. Acting was good, however, but it's the lack of, what I thought what, innovation that made me dislike it.
On the other hand, i was hugely skeptical about GOTG, but it ended up being hugely surprising. It was a cheesy superhero film and it knew it. It was self aware and that's what made it so charismatic, because it didn't take itself anywhere near as seriously as The Avengers. I find the whole superhero business like a joke anyway, so seeing it done so seriously in the avengers rubbed me the wrong way.
That being said, I think when superhero films are serious but dark, it makes all the difference. Like Watchmen, which is a classic. |
