Star Wars Ranking

This is SPUTNIKmusic after all. Space is relevant.
1John Williams
Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

The Original Trilogy is untouchable. This one more than the others.
2John Williams
Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope

The oldest story ever told, but still one of the best ways to tell it.
3Michael Giacchino
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Original M

An epic story within an epic story full of heroism, sacrifice and hope in the face of overwhelming odds and an implacable juggernaut of an antagonist. Everything a Star Wars movie should be.
4John Williams
Star Wars, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Ewoks.
5John Powell
Solo: A Star Wars Story

A fun little adventure with the cowboys, mobsters, gamblers and pirates inhabiting the margins of the galaxy we all know and love. Closer in spirit to the original Star Wars than anything else in the franchise.
6John Williams
Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

A Shakespearean tragedy in space that valiantly attempted to build a universe full of intrigue, ultimately proved that George Lucas' reach exceeded his grasp.
7John Williams
Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Basically just a reprise of the original trilogy with better(?) sfx.
8John Williams
Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Pros: Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn, young Obi-Wan Kenobi, podracing.
Cons: Everything else.
9John Williams
Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Not a terrible movie, per se. Just a terrible Star Wars movie. Sure, it looks like a Star Wars movie, but don't be fooled. It plays out like it was made by someone who hated everything that made the Star Wars movies great in the first place, but wasn't creative enough to write an original story. They just changed the endings of already-done set pieces. Apparently this approach is called "subversion of expectations". I expected a movie logically, ideologically and thematically coherent with the other movies it shares a universe with, and that expectation was definitely subverted.
10John Williams
Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones

I honestly don't really remember anything from this one except Natalie Portman's midriff.
