12.10.10 | the tigers need to re-sign magglio (which seems like a certainty now that crawford signed w/ the sahks) and they will be legit as hell. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Yeah, Red Sox are gonna pwn next year. However I mourn for the Rays. |
Josh D.
12.10.10 | Sox will probs still suck. |
curseworship
12.10.10 | RIP Rays being relevant. Braves have Uggla so they will contend again |
BigHans
12.10.10 | Now Red Sox fans can officially shut the fuck up about the Yankees, because they have completed the final step in becoming them. Except they do have a farm system. |
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | I know it would never happen, but the Sox found a way to get Garza from the Rays... hoooly shit. |
EVedder27
12.10.10 | you better hope the yanks don't get cliff lee though
|
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | Hans I've never bitched about the Yankees having too much money or whatever, for the record.
I get that you're talking in a general sense though. |
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | You think I care about Cliff Lee? Sure, it'd be funny as hell if he stayed with the Rangers, but we at least have the wild card on lockdown now. So Lee can do whatever he wants. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | If Lee doesn't sign with the Yanks and Beckett returns to form, you guys will run away with the division |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | So hey, it looks like Marlins management has decided to finally stop scamming it's citizens out of money and hope and dreams. if they sign Eric Chavez I feel Florida will be ina great place with Gaby Sanchez and Mike Stanton/Logan Morrisons ascent to MVP status. Also Dominquez, hope he gets a shot. |
EVedder27
12.10.10 | Believe me, he's terrifying the post season. The Giants were the only team to really get to him. |
Satellite
12.10.10 | i have a feeling lee stays with the rangers. they're selling really hard and he's been with 4 teams the past 2 years. |
BigHans
12.10.10 | lol Balls, you are fucking desperate if the thought of Eric Chavez excites you. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | I used to play basketball with his Dominguez's older brother or cousin or whatever he was, and we went to see him play ball. If he can cut down on strikeouts, that kid can fucking hit. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Remember Jorge Cantu? Florida has a knack for reviving the dead. And he appears to be healthy along with a grudge to get back to form. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | Yeah, Eric Chavez doesn't excite me one bit(as a Marlins fan myself). Nothing like having an injury-prone veteran 3rd baseman who can't even stay on the field for more than 30 games a year now. |
BigHans
12.10.10 | Chavez hasn't been relevant in over 5 years, and he was overrated even in his prime. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | "Remember Jorge Cantu? Florida has a knack for reviving the dead. And he appears to be healthy along with a grudge to get back to form."
Dude, Cantu wasn't dead when he got to Florida, because he never was anything other than a mediocre player. Plus, no offense, Cantu had ONE good year with us, and the rest were a bit underwhelming. He only looked like a great player because he was playing on a "meh" team. |
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | I remember the Sox/Marlins talking about Mike Stanton for Manny back at the 08 deadline. If we had him right now on top of everything else, jesus christ. |
BigHans
12.10.10 | I will concede that Hanley is a DUDE. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | Hanley is a great player, but such a baby. The shit that comes out of his mouth to reporters and Marlins' executives is astounding. He feels entitled, and doesn't feel like he needs to work at anything, and that's the worst thing a player can feel, think, or do. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Cantu was done after Tampa. Had two solid years in Florida and one epic start turned crap year.
Regardless, Florida's got the talent, the prospects, and potential to do big things again. Stanton's hitting 45 this year. |
curseworship
12.10.10 | Pit, dos it piss you off that Florida traded Uggla to a division rival? As a Braves fan, I am happy as shit, but I always hate to see that |
BigHans
12.10.10 | I suppose the Marlins are due to win a world series and then have a massive firesale |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | Don't get too far ahead of yourself, Balls. Everyone said Coghlan was going to explode in his second year, and he ended up "okay" at best. Sure, they have tons of young talent, but they need to develop it more before we start talking about doing "big things again." |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Coghlan had a horrible start and then picked it up nicely before the injury. I like the Braves so I dont mind Uggla going to them. I just want to see the Mets suffer mercifully until the very end. |
BigHans
12.10.10 | Theres this little team called the Twins that has made the playoffs 7 times in the last decade. Of course, they always get obliterated by the Yankees, but still. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | "Pit, dos it piss you off that Florida traded Uggla to a division rival? As a Braves fan, I am happy as shit, but I always hate to see that"
It pissed me off to see him go to a division rival, yes.... it doesn't, however, piss me off that he's gone. The situation with him started deteriorating from the minute Cody Ross was traded, and I understood why Uggla was so upset. However, the way he handled himself this post-season kind of shows me the man that Uggla has turned into: an entitled-greedy baseball player on the downswing of his career. Hanley's not my favorite player, but he's the best on the team, and Uggla decided to ask for a contract that was 1 more million than Hanley's? That just showed me he didn't want to be here anymore. Good riddance. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Did you know Uggla means Owl in Swedish? |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | Really? I thought it meant "Greedy, Money-grubbing Bastard" in French. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | 70 mills better than 126. Jayson Werth....what a fucking douchebag. That asshole will never see the playoffs again. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | I don't blame Jayson Werth, I blame the agent who thought he do it, and the owner who bought into it. The guy's maybe got one more year in him, and you're going to give him 7 years at $126 mil? HE WON'T GIVE YOU MORE THAN 2 MORE GOOD YEARS, WTF ARE YOU THINKING?!?! That was just the Nationals grabbing at straws. |
BigHans
12.10.10 | Uggla sucks. If you're going to hit .260 and K 180 times a year, you better be averaging 40 bombs. |
AggravatedYeti
12.10.10 | Sox fans will never stop bitching about the Yanks Hans don't fool yourself.
In fact: eat a dick Yanks, get ready for a SEASON.
Will have to go through New York for the pennant per usual but at least this year we won't be a joke with injury woes. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | Except he didn't play like that this year, Hans. He cut his strikeouts down, didn't swing for the fences each time, and walked a helluva lot. He's a good, solid player, and will be good for probably 2 more years, but after that, he'll be nothing more than a utility guy.
That Jayson Werth contract is even more appaling than the 10 year, $217 mil Gonzo got a few years back. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Apparently even now the Sox are still way under what the Yankees are paying. I heard they could sign Beltre and any mostly any other top tier free agent and still under the Yanks. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | Hate the goddamn Yankees |
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | Is that true Balls? Wow, imagine how funny it would be if we swiped Lee too. People in NY would be jumping off their apartment buildings. |
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | As far as still having payroll goes though, I'd like to see the Sox make a run at Jose Reyes, dangling Jed Lowrie. The Mets are reeling, and Sandy Alderson is not a fan of Reyes-type players (speedsters that can't slug or aren't OBP machines). He had a down year last year, so he could probably be had cheaper than usual. He would shore up the bottom of our order nicely. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | It's not suprising really. Jeter,A-Rod,Sabbatia, Burnett, and Teixera's contracts are fuckin huge. Not sure about Cano and Posada but probaly insane as well. |
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | Well I'm not surprised our payroll is less, I didn't think the gap would be that big where Beltre + top FA would still have us below them. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | As I said earlier, if Boston can get another back-end starter and get Beckett back into his old form, the Red Sox will run away with the AL East this year, because that offense, with Youk, Crawford, Gonzalez, Martinez, and Big Papi is fucking lethal. |
AggravatedYeti
12.10.10 | if you look at active MLB players with 100million dollar contracts I'm pretty sure the Yanks have 4-6 starters (including C.C.) in that club.
The Sox ironically are only about 15mil under the Yankees payroll after signing Gonzo & Crawford.
but make no mistake if the yankees don't get Lee (who's 100mil+ will once again boost their salary pay over us) they are going to snatch up every half-decent free agent in sight. If not they're fucked.
we won't nab Cliff though as we don't really need him nor do we have the money to give him. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz are fucking lethal. Add a healthy Beckett and Matsuaka shit they will rock. Some asshole ona yahoo sports blog said Boston needed starting pitching lol. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | You need him now, because that Sox line-up is going to tear everything up. |
AggravatedYeti
12.10.10 | Victor is gone Pit.
he went to Detroit if I'm not mistaken.
I'm more excited about a 1-2-3 batting order of Jacoby-Pedroia-Crawford. imagine being a pitch with Elesbury & Crawford on base. ffuucckking fast. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | Lester is lethal, but Buchholz's "lethality" is still yet to be determined. Beckett, even when healthy the past 2 years, has struggled beyond belief, and Matsusaka can't stay healthy because that pitching motion he has is going to rip his arm apart at some point. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | 100+ stolen bases alone. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | You're right, Yeti. Damn, how did I miss that? |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Throw in 4 to 5 from Big Papi. All the micks and wops are gonna go wild this year. |
AggravatedYeti
12.10.10 | we ditched Vic & Adrien for greener pastures.
I was actually very sad to see them go as I'd have given up Nancy Drew in a heart-beat instead. But Beltre has no where to play and with Papi at DH...we gonna bench him? |
AggravatedYeti
12.10.10 | also yall are forgetting about Daniel Bard. I would give up Matasusaka and Lackey if it meant keeping Bard. |

12.10.10 | retired I think |
Jesuslaves
12.10.10 | Varitek's retired? Pretty sure the Sox have him on another one-year this season. |
BallsToTheWall
12.10.10 | Will always cherish my #19 jersey. Good guy. Yah, Variteks a backup. |
AggravatedYeti
12.10.10 | yeah you're right, I thought he had stepped down before Victor left but he's signed a 1 year as presumable backup.
good though. oh captain my captain. |

12.10.10 | The guy was supposed to be a superstar, but his career has been majorly under-whelming. |
AggravatedYeti
12.10.10 | he's lucky Epstein & John Henry love him so much cause there's no reason that fucker should be making 15+ a year and still starting.
I can't think of a single person in Red Sox nation that wouldn't love him to be gone.
its like a Manny style contract--yet he rarely shows up at critical moments(i.e. the post-season)
jackass. |
SlowBoristheBlade
12.10.10 | He doesn't just rarely show up at critical moments, he rarely shows up. Period. |
