| Bearded Idiocy 2010
So here I am, one of the least prolific users on this site with a shitty music taste, doing a 2010, probably a week or two too late. I bet you're all very exited about this.rAnyway, I'm doing this mostly because everybody else is doing it . There are a couple of things you should know before reading it:r1) I do not think of myself as of someone that can do a "best of..." list, so this is just releases of 2010 that I heard;r2) this won't be one of those "whoah, lots of good stuff here" lists.rTL;DR version: list sucks, I need to GTFO. For We Are Many
Yes, yes, a "genericore" release, I know. But frankly, I wasn't expecting anything really gstellar after the dreadful "Overcome", and this proved to be actually better that what i was hoping for. Yes, it's still metalcore, yes, it's nothing amazing - but I enjoyed it really much. Rating: 3.5/5 | | 2 |  | Deftones
Diamond Eyes
This album is probably the one I'd put forward as the AotY number one contender. Consistently amazing throughout the whole running time, with only a couple of slight bumps along the road, "Diamond Eyes" takes the cake for being the most hyped and yet also the most deserving the hype album that was released on 2010. The Powerless Rise
Oh, no! ANOTHER metalcore album! So yeah, that's one of the "Sputnik hype" albums that i have bought into this year... And yeah, people were actually going crazy (in the positive sense) about it for the first couple of weeks, until they remembered it's actually As i Lay dying... Anyway, I never was a big fan of this band, enjoyed An Ocean Between Us, but that's about it. So this record pleasantly surprised me, because I felt that just about everything about it was improved - the drumming, the guitar playing, the harsh vocal... ok, the cleans still suck, but overall, this was something compeletly unexpected, hence why Rating: 4/5 | | 4 |  | Blind Guardian
At the Edge of Time
Probably the best power metal release in last year (I say probably, because, in spite of what some people might think, I'm not into power metal that much). Improved just about everything from A Twist in the Myth, but I rated those two the same, simply because At the Edge of Time has THE worsts ballads BG has EVER made. Rating: 3.5/5 | | 5 |  | Dagoba
Poseidon
Reading the title of the album and viewing its cover I thought this was the "Yargh, matey, gonna show these scurvy rat's the real pirate metal" kind of album. And I was wrong. It's thrashy and very fun to listen to. Rating: 3.5/5 | | 6 |  | Dark Tranquillity
We Are the Void
Well, I'm not an avid listener of DT. The only album I've heard before this one was fiction, and it was pretty amazing. And this one... is not. It's exactly what's said on the tin: void. Void of things that made DT good. Sure, there is a glimmer of the former brilliance here and there, but it's mostly hidden behind of inpenetrable wall of BOOOOOOOOOOORING. The World Is A Thorn
Now most of you are cringing about the inclusion of this one, but hear (read?) me out. DH for me is just a band that plays sometimes good, sometimes bad brand of veeeeery light metalcore. the only thing that's really great about them is their ballads. And this album... It's the point where they try to be the reaaaaaally hard metalcore, and fail miserably. Option Paralysis
This band was one of those I avoided for a long time. They were simply too "brutal" and "chaotic" for my tastes. And yet I finally dared to take a more serious listen... And picked up this album, which I guess is their most watered down release? WHO GIVES A DAMN, because it's simply amazing. This is a perfect blend of sheer chaos and beautiful melodies. Oh, and after listening to it, I now cite Greg Puciato as one of my favourite singers of all time. Rating: 4.5/5 | | 9 |  | Enslaved
Axioma Ethica Odini
Another "Sputnik hype" album. I was initially very sceptical, because, i'll admit it - I hold little to no love for black metal. But again, like a lot of time last year, i was pleasantly surprised. I can see a lot of similarities with Opeth here, and I understand why some might hate it for that. Me? I loved it. Rating: 4/5 | | 10 |  | Fear Factory
Mechanize
Saw this band open for Metallica and they totally stole the show for me. After going with little knowledge about them, I was instantly converted into a fan. This record is one of the few that, I guess, could be classified as one of the dying breed of industrial metal. And yeah, it's industrial as fuck, and metal as fuck. These guys perfectly capture the sound of the machinery, that I commonly associate with industrial metal. And Mechanize is a testament to the genre. Rating: 4/5 | | 11 |  | Kalmah

Hmm, how do i describe this one? You know the feeling, when you listen to album, and realise taht it's pretty mediocre and forget about it's existence? Well I listened to "12 gauge" and thought that everything about it was actually good... and then I forgot about it's existence. Poetry for the Poisoned
Hey, look, a power metal band that's not about Dungeons & Dragons OR Tolkien! Anyway, Kamelot swept me away from my feet with the amazing duology of Epica and the Black Halo, and I simply had to check this out. Needless to say, I was severly disappointed. It's boring (and again, I don't really use this word lightly) save for a few tracks. Definetly my disappintment of the year. Rating: 3/5 | | 13 |  | More Than Life
Love Let Me Go
Awww, it's the "Titty Album"... Honestly, I went for the cover... and stayed for the music. While not a big fan of hardcore, this really hooked me, and while I definetly need to be in a certain mood to fully enjoy it, there's noy denying - it's one of the kind. The Panic Broadcast
Definetly the album I was excited for the most. And it was good, fun. What can I say, it's mostly Soilwork being Soilwork, really, and you either love it or hate it. For Aeons Past
Lyrical visionary of Mikael Stanne and incredible vocals of Christian Alvestam - what could go wrong? Oh, yeah, the music, right... It's full of dull and uninteresting riffs, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Hope the band will improve with their sophmore release. Rating: 3/5 | | 16 |  | Underoath
