08.19.09 | How about The Early November's triple album 'The Mechanic, The Mother, and The Path'?
Also...
The Beatles - (self-titled)
Have A Nice Life - Deathconsciousness
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew |
WatchItExplode
08.19.09 | alright robo...thoughts on those? |
Prophet178
08.19.09 | Not saying these are bad, but they are double albums.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antenna to the Heavens
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
Radiohead - In Rainbows (counting the 2nd disc)
Aphrodite's Child - 666
Those the only ones I can think off the top of my head.
40 minutes is usually the sweet spot for me, anything over that is usually a specialized listen for when I'm in the mood for it. |
killrobotmusic
08.19.09 | I haven't fully heard these releases by The Early November and Miles Davis so I can't cimment on those.
The Beatles self-titled is by far my favorite Beatles album because it featured such musical experimentation. I would say it would share #3's description.
Deathconsciousness is a rad album if you're into lo-fi shoegaze/post-rock/whatever the hell else genres they are. Works as a double album because of the crazy concept that goes along with it. |
Prophet178
08.19.09 | The new Flaming Lips and Porcupine Tree albums are going to be doubles too, going to be interesting to see how those turn out. |
Masochist
08.19.09 | DT - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Showbread - Anorexia Nervosa
Not too many double albums that work well. 'Stadium Arcadium' would be a perfect example, I think...but every so often, someone gets it right. |
WatchItExplode
08.19.09 | Didn't the Flaming Lips release an album the had four different versions meant to be played at the same time a few years ago.
I agree about the 40min sweet spot. I think it's the exception to the rule when a double release is truly amazing. All the more reason to consider what Guns and System did... |
Prophet178
08.19.09 | Opeth's Deliverance and Damnation could be considered a double album too.
I'm not sure about that Flaming Lips album, I just know Embryonic will be a double. |
Prophet178
08.19.09 | Oh, Neurosis did something like that with Times of Grace and Tribes of Neurot. The 2 separate albums that are meant to be played together idea. |
Masochist
08.19.09 | Would you consider maudlin of the Well's 'Bath' and 'Leaving Your Body Map' in that same group? |
WatchItExplode
08.19.09 | Don't know...have only listened to part the second. Was the material written and recorded around the same time but released separately? |
Masochist
08.19.09 | And man, can't believe I forgot Foo Fighters - 'In Your Honor'. At least that double album had some sort of division in the songs (still was too much Foo, though). |
Masochist
08.19.09 | They were released at the same time, but separate of each other. |
WatchItExplode
08.19.09 | Then I'd say it qualifies...Bath seems to be the favorite around here, your take? I thought part the second was well done but kind of slow and overly drawn out, heard earlier stuff is quite different. |
Masochist
08.19.09 | Wish I could give one, but I can't...I've never heard either, either. Problem is, you can't buy them online. Not on iTunes, not on Amazon MP3...even the hard copy of 'Bath' goes for near $75.00 on Amazon.
I suppose I'll have to grab both of those albums from Rapidshare or MediaFire.... |
Prophet178
08.19.09 | They're highly praised, but I don't care for either myself. I would say Bath is the better of the two though. |
WatchItExplode
08.19.09 | I generally buy my music but a download might be in order to get a feel for the material...thanx gentlemen |
Tempertemperature
08.19.09 | Nine Inch Nails' The Fragile is awesome, too. |
ClearTheLane
08.19.09 | Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You |
Spare
08.19.09 | leaves turn inside you is amazing and not very long for a double album, also does microcastle/weird era cont. count? |
Yotimi
08.19.09 | Leaves turn inside you is amazing. Flaming Lips' Zareika was a good idea but nobody has the means to enjoy a quadruple album that you have to play simultaneously (I'm surprised they haven't released a mixed version of this so more people can enjoy it). The Early November's triple album was pretty week, especially compared to their earlier works that I would consider masterpieces for the pop/punk genre. Oh, and In Defense of the Genre was my most dissappointing listening experience of my life. 2 is great though. |
TheGreatD17
08.19.09 | Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life is easily the best double album of all time. Basically the degree to which it works just depends on talent and diverse songs. |
BassDemon333
08.19.09 | NIN's "The Fragile" should be here. Listen to it if you havent already. One of the greatest double albums ever.
SOAD's double album was ok, but I only liked a few tracks off of each side. The self-titled will always beat anything they do I think.
This might be mad, but i've never heard "The Wall" all the way through. Is it really that good? |
EVedder27
08.19.09 | Quadrophenia is another double. 4 is a good album but compared to 2 and 3...well its not so good. |
Tits McGee
08.19.09 | bob dylan- blonde on blonde
best double album eveeeeeeer |

08.19.09 | double albums kick ass, but can be hard to get into. 3 is amazing and easy as hell to enjoy after one listen |
