MarsKid 07.03.23	The flavoring is maybe making it seem more complex than it is, but it's standard Mafia! Mafia is a basic game of deception that is sometimes known as Werewolf, Town of Salem, etc. Essentially, you have a group of players that are in a 'town,' and among those players are a select few that are members of the mafia. There are two phases, Day and Night. During day phases, players attempt to figure out who the mafia members are, and try to vote them out to be executed. During the Night phase, the mafia meets and choose to kill one member of the town. This continues until either the town successfully votes out the mafia, or the remaining mafia members equal half of the remaining players, by which point the town has mechanically lost. Where things get complicated is when roles are tossed into the mix. These are special abilities players have that can be used during the day or night. For example, you have town doctors, who can choose to protect someone during the night from being killed.

MarsKid 07.03.23	Normally, when played in-person, you keep an eye out for physical tells, listen for any sort of slips, catch people in lies, that kind of stuff. You also try to look at voting patterns (who voted for who, who pushed the vote, etc.), who is suspicious of who, their reasoning, stuff like that. In my experience, the game usually starts with a "Day 0" phase that's like a check-in for players. It gives time for people to interact and feel each other out, and it usually ends in an abstrain/no-vote. The first night happens, during which someone is usually killed, and from there you can try to start a bit of gamesolving. It's def harder in a forum setting because you lose audio tells and body language, but that's the gist of it.

MarsKid 07.03.23	Votes can be split, with whoever has the most votes at the end of the day being voted off. The day can be ended prematurely if someone gets a majority of votes. The mafia's goal during the day is to sow distrust and confusion in the town by trying to vote out town members off while avoiding suspicion themselves. So everyone is involved in the day phase.

MarsKid 07.03.23	Yeah exactly! Depending on how the game is run, mafia have an active chat throughout the day, or their chat is only open during the night phase. They are aware of who they are/their teammates. Once you add different power roles, it gets more complex (and consequently harder to balance), but the base premise remains the same.
