10.11.10 | what is up with people liking Converge so much? they're really nothing special... |
Satellite
10.11.10 | Says the dude who gave 30 Seconds to Mars and BFMV fives. |
Strider
10.11.10 | "Says the dude who gave 30 Seconds to Mars and BFMV fives"
I still don't go around saying they're the best bands ever. If sounding highly distorted and chaotic with no visible structure means being good music, them count me out... |
BigTuna
10.11.10 | Converge is a spectacular band you just truly have to invest |
Ire
10.11.10 | Follow the path of the one called Satellite. [2]
btw saying that converge have no structure makes you sound like an idiot. |
Strider
10.11.10 | But don't you guys like it better when it just clicks with a band, and don't have to force yourself to listen to it, so that you might like it one day? |
LG
10.11.10 | Whats the point of investing in shit? |
Strider
10.11.10 | I said that they have no visible structure. I mean the structure has to be here, but I'm having troubles seeing it. |
BigTuna
10.11.10 | A. it's not shit
B. no, i kind of like spending time with an album until it clicks
C. listen to it more |
Satellite
10.11.10 | Some albums are immediately recognizable as amazing, while others require some investment. Jane Doe (obviously) fits the latter category. |
Ire
10.11.10 | "But don't you guys like it better when it just clicks with a band, and don't have to force yourself to listen to it, so that you might like it one day?"
you really have to be dumb if this is your perspective on enjoying music |
Strider
10.11.10 | I'm trying to get into axe to fall first, but doing it slowly, Converge is highly abrasive. |
Strider
10.11.10 | "you really have to be dumb if this is your perspective on enjoying music"
I never said I was against giving a band a try even though I didn't like it the first time. I did so with The Dillinger Escape Plan and now I enjoy these guys |
LG
10.11.10 | I understand a lot of people here respect and somehow enjoy Converge. But to me they're awful, and that's probably not gonna change. |
Emim
10.11.10 | "Whats the point of investing in shit?"
Bam. |
TheBloodTypo
10.11.10 | If an album instantly clicks with you, that usually means there's nothing more to listen for that you didn't hear the first time. if an album, such as Jane Doe, comes along, and you have to take multiple listens from different angles to understand it as a whole, it is somewhat of a masterpiece.
Essentially, what you're saying is that you prefer "Twinkle Twinkle" to "Beethoven's 5th," because Beethoven's 5th requires much listening and an acquired ear to fully appreciate. |
Ire
10.11.10 | Oh, sorry for the hostility then.
I understand. I thought that you were hinting at... eh never mind.
To be honest I don't understand how Converge are a grower band. Jane Doe and Axe To Fall were pretty great on first listens |
TheBloodTypo
10.11.10 | I liked Jane Doe on first try, but I didn't see the hype of it until a couple thousand more listens. |
Emim
10.11.10 | Converge just isn't as good as other metalcore bands. |
TheBloodTypo
10.11.10 | I don't really consider them metalcore. It's hard the genre them. |
SlightlyEpic
10.11.10 | no, they're better. |
Strider
10.11.10 | @TheBloodTypo, you've made a good point here. But I can click with an album at first listen and not realize everything it has to offer.
@Ire, no sweat, bro. I'm actually giving axe to fall a shot right now, and I do see why they are appreciated here. But it's sure to take some time for me to truly like it |
TheBloodTypo
10.11.10 | I, personally, just don't find it quite as satisfying to instantly click.
Everyone's different. |
Strider
10.11.10 | Of course.
And yeah, what are they actually? I mean, they don't really follow metalcore standards. |
Emim
10.11.10 | Nah, Converge gets old quick and Jane Doe isn't even their best; that's You Fail Me |
PanasonicYouth
10.11.10 | Follow the path of the one called Satellite. [3]

10.11.10 | They don't follow modern metalcore standards* |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.11.10 | Oceana's Clean Head EP is definately worth your time, it's fantastic. |
Strider
10.11.10 | Sorry Emim, but I don't see any hardcore in them, but then again, I don't know hardcore very well, so I'm going to follow you on this one |
Emim
10.11.10 | Don't just base it off of Jane Doe; listen to Axe to Fall and Petitioning the Empty Sky. |
Strider
10.11.10 | I was basing it off Axe To Fall. I've never finished Jane Doe yet. |
deathofasalesman
10.11.10 | What is up with everyone just now checking out Jane Doe? |
PurpleDrank
10.11.10 | maybe they want to get into metalcore? |
Emim
10.11.10 | I definitely wouldn't recommend Jane Doe for getting into metalcore. |
deathofasalesman
10.11.10 | Yeah. I don't even like calling Converge metalcore. |
Baphomet
10.11.10 | ^salesman is right. Converge pretty much has a genre of its own and is not the way into metalcore. The way I see it, JD can only be fully enjoyed if you already like both metalcore and grind. |
Baphomet
10.12.10 | Yeah that works too. |
JustJoe.
10.12.10 | Yay |
BigTuna
10.12.10 | Honestly Axe to Fall is probably the easiest to get into. |
Baphomet
10.12.10 | To me it's either Axe to Fall or No Heroes. |
BenedictVII
10.12.10 | Ha, wow. I've got a lot more comments than I was expecting. There are just some albums out there where you know greatness is hiding in it, you just can't see it yet. Then after a few listens when it finally clicks it's all the better for it. |
