| Laptop Hard Disk Issues
Anyone on here especially tech savvy? I have a Lenovo ideapad 310 and can't get it to start. It was accidentally dropped down a couple stairs in the past, and now every time I boot it I get a message saying "default boot device missing or boot failed" and then it gets locked in this perpetual "checking media" screen where it restarts several times and leads back to the same menu. When I boot into BIOS, it says under Hard Disk [Not Detected] -I'm guessing something internally got dislodged or something. Can't afford to get this repaired, it's not under warranty, so I was wondering if any of you know of any solutions. | 1 | | Aqua Aquarius | |

07.10.19 | no bootable device usually means it can't find the OS...when the operating system is installed it's partitioned on one of the device's hard drives, so if the HDD containing that partition failed, then that's probably what's happening. if you think it could have come dislodged you could try taking it apart and re-seating the drive, but no guarantees that'll work. | auberginedreams
07.10.19 | I had the same problem with an external hard drive a few years ago. I dropped it like two feet and it never worked again unfortunately. I lost a lot of stuff so now I’m scared to even use them. | robotmagician
07.10.19 | you could try opening up the laptop and checking for loose wires - there’s usually a cord supplying power to the hdd and one to the motherboard. check the connection on both ends of those wires. if it’s not that, it’s likely the hdd is busted which is the downside to that format. SSDs don’t have that problem, and are way faster, but have significantly less storage space. if you have to upgrade depending on what you use it for, go for a chromebook or a laptop with an ssd and grab an external hdd and a carrying case for it. | Gyromania
07.10.19 | cheers guys. i opened it up, connected some loose tape that led from the hdd to the motherboard, but still the issue persists. i think the drive is just fucked. couldn't i just get like a cheap 240gb ssd and replace it with that? | neekafat

07.10.19 | if your laptop has a slot for SSDs that could work but you’re going to probably need an OS install disc or have the OS on a usb drive? not 100% sure | Gyromania
