That's really a good question.
Most of the genre fans are very conservative...but a talented new band attract "talented" new fans. This genre needs something fresh but true.

In some ways their riffs are but their spacey feel isn't as well as their progressive natures. But quite frankly I don't care if a thrash bands sounds old school or not. All I care about is if they write good cohesive music that hasn't been done before. Simple as dat |

I only rep a few modern thrash bands and while they're nothing new they are still writing music that is tasty enough to be enjoyed seperately from past offerings such as their use of different riff patterns, transitions, and occasional new compositions. Some bands can have that generic progressive sound but those are the shitty ones. Thrash to me is a dead genre and has been for a long time. It had a great run in the 80s and influenced pretty much all metal around today but it ran out of ideas. I see no reason to keep rehashing the same shit but thats me. |

09.25.12 | I agree and that's why when I look for modern thrash bands I check to see if they're doing anything new as well as combining other genre's elements to further the music.
Any true thrasher would say overall thrash is dead but there are bands out there expirementing but there are very few. I realize this and I'm working on a thrash album as well but I'm combining progressive into it to give it a fresh feel.
With that being said I still feel there is still room for thrash as a solo genre to expand but it would take a lot of work and great focus on the riffs to get there but most bands just want to put out a quick album and usually miss the mark so they can satisfy music companies. |
