2014 Anticipated Releases
2014 has a chance to be a pretty good year for music. Here are some albums
I am looking forward to checking out. Let me know what else I should have
on my horizons. |
1 | | Have a Nice Life The Unnatural World
(2.4.14) I was pretty stoked when I found out these guys were putting out a new
album. These guys were like THE Sputnik band circa 2008 or whenever. Songs like
"Defenstration Song" have been around for a while (see Voids), but it's cool to also
see the band branch out in a more melodic direction with tracks like "Guggenheim
Wax." |
2 | | The Men Tomorrow's Hits
(3.4.14) I didn't care all that much for New Moon, so I'm hoping this album is more in
the punk-ish vain of Open Your Heart. |
3 | | Real Estate Atlas
(3.4.14) "Talking Backwards" has been one of the best songs I've heard so far this
year, so I'm pretty excited to see what the rest of this album sounds like. It's always
nice to support another NJ band. |
4 | | The War on Drugs Lost in the Dream
(3.18.14) Like with Real Estate, I've only heard one song off of this album ("Red
Eyes"), but it is a powerful one. This is a great band to blast on long drives. |
5 | | Manchester Orchestra Cope
(4.1.14) I'm not really sure what to expect from this album. These guys have a pretty
consistent sound, so it will be interesting to see if they've changed anything up at all. |
6 | | S. Carey Range of Light
(4.1.14) I really enjoyed All We Grow and didn't care much for Hoyas, so I hope this
album is more in the direction of the former. I wasn't necessarily blown away by the
track he put out so far, though. |
7 | | Cloud Nothings TBA
(Spring TBA) I heard that these guys are going for an even more aggressive sound on
this album, which is awesome to hear. More songs like "Wasted Days" would be
amazing. |
8 | | Mastodon TBA
(Spring TBA) I'm sure this album will continue Mastodon's trajectory toward a more
beefed up, "mainstream" sound, but there will undoubtably be a few good tracks on
here nonetheless. |
9 | | Swans TBA
(TBA) I'm curious to see how Michael Gira and company try to top the colossal The
Seer. I have a feeling we won't see this album until much later in the year. |
10 | | Trophy Scars Holy Vacants
(TBA) Holy Vacants isn't exactly in a Chinese Democracy situation, but it sure has
taken a long time to come out. The band recently posted that "big news is coming"
about the album soon, which is potentially exciting to hear. But regardless of when it
comes out, I am really looking forward to this album. |
