Wolfe In 2021 Pt. 1

Lot of shit missing on the database as usual I'm disappointed AS USUAL, Here's to me making a baby return to add shit for your rating pleasure. It only takes like 10 seconds but y'all aren't resourceful like that huh. RIP to effort.
1Cult of Luna
The Raging River

post-metal // dude I bought like 5 vinyl variants and they're all a beauty, here's to crypto helping buying them all and with $10k still going with all the dumb dips people are scared about. one of their better records in terms of consistency and glory to this new muscular sounding era of theirs.
2Chevelle
NIRATIAS

alternative rock // ngl the bass playing has no personality but then again, when did it ever have it in this band. also surprised one of my favourite childhood bands are still going strong. pretty good shit that I'll likely won't return to as much as I'd like to. don't know if it's finally the 'age thing' hitting me but after Bull they kinda lost me even after giving it all a chance. gonna see them perform in November with Metallica so let's see how that goes. also never cared about the whole dumb "dad rock" tag but hot damn would it fit here for me.
3Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou
The Helm Of Sorrow

sludge-grunge // sweet secret 2020 EP hidden in the main release depending on the version you BOUGHT yea support the shit you love and I happen to love these guys. Sweet Roadburn memories amirite Deez? Here's to Psycho Las Vegas taking over what we had to miss on RB this year.
4Sarin (CAN)
You Can’t Go Back

post-metal // the Aaron Turner vox are hilariously on point but to hear it on a more common metered post-metal like on the opener was an interesting experience. after listening to ISIS for like 15-16 years by now and with Wavering Radiant already past its 10 year anniversary, I thought this was a nice ride from fellow post-metal aficianados. There's definitely traces of other OG "post-" bands like Pelican and other pre-2010 contemporaries (what a nostalgic era for me). That said this group's previous records are borderline ripping off shit and that made me almost write them off as "fuck that".
5Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The LSO
Promises

post-minimalism jazz feat. FP // soothing stuff that I needed good speakers to discern what was going on. the sound design and arrangements are amazing. record got overhated apparently cuz it's every year that there's a jazz album that rises to the top and people hate on it cuz of "hype" and it being "overrated". Found someone calling it the "TPAB of jazz", as if they haven't left their gaming station in years.
6Little Snake
A Fragmented Love Story, Written By The Infinite..

sound collage-y glitch stuff // the features on this from FlyLo and Amon Tobin are hard to discern but this artist definitely has the talent to match. it's a surreal listen and I was baked as fuck while watching FlyLo's new anime listening to this in the background. You're welcome for this addition to the site btw, y'all are slow.
7Skee Mask
Pool

electronic mish-mash of good genres (breakbeat, IDM, techno, etc.) // oh man what a treat this is. lot to digest and a whole lotta fun. If you know, you know. If you don't, there's loads of material to dive into from Skeez Nuts
8Madlib
Sound Ancestors

hip-hop wizardry with the help of Four Tet // not much to say if you're already familiar with the 'Lib. the vibes are there and definitely one of the better of his 'solo' projects.
9Rorcal and Earthflesh
Witch Coven

blackened sludgecore with well-mixed harsh noise // I'm kinda disappointed Kehlvin stopped being a band apparently, but I'm glad their vocalist carried on with Rorcal. That old "Ascencion" collaboration between both bands is one of the better "metal" collaborations I've ever heard. As a vocalist, Yonni is extremely fucking underrated. As for Earthflesh, that's a harsh noise project of Rorcal's bassist, already with another split release under its belt. We got TWO tracks here and they're both long, they're both heavy, and if you heard Muladona expect much of the same but with no spoken word and a noticeably heavy layer on top.
10Ad Nauseam
Imperative Imperceptible Impulse

tech death metal // cheers to my fellow countrymen continuing with their project with superb results.
11Mare Cognitum
Solar Paroxysm

atmos bm // impressive stuff that I may need to return to soon.
12Spectral Wound
A Diabolic Thirst

black metuhl // solid record
13Melvins
Working with God

"I fuck around" rock // opener is stupid fun, rest is also good
14Grave Miasma
Abyss of Wrathful Deities

death metal // not as strong as their 2013 release, but that could be cuz I'm getting old and I'm sure all the DM tropes are way too familiar to me at this point. it's still good.
15Spectral Lore
Ετερόφωτος

atmos bm // good thing it's way better than the artwork picked for this, yikes. almost as strong as III, but I like the twists he did this time around.
16Cannibal Corpse
Violence Unimagined

death metal // how this project is still going this strong is beyond me. Corpsegrinder and Webster STILL kill it.
17Knoll
Interstice

deathgrind // Full of Hell pretty much but if they stayed relentless.
18Dvne
Etemen Ænka

progressive metal // kinda agree with the 'Net's consensus of the debut being a bit better, and this isn't on brand with my usual leaning of sludgy metal but it's a great listen.
19Iglooghost
Lei Line Eon

UK wonky, glitchy wonk // interesting designs this time around for sure, not as captivating as his other works to me (for now)
20Leon Vynehall
Rare, Forever

tech house/ambient house // beautiful and entrancing tracks. as much as one user here decried for a return of stuff like Rojus, I honestly was more enamoured by his sound designing and shit what more do you want from a guy that already has great DJ mixes out there??
21Big Brave
Vital

drone metal/post-metal // this is them at their best right now. anxious vocals around sprawling drones and crashing drums. definitely a good band to catch live. stoked about their The Body collab coming into form.
22Grimes
Miss Anthropocene (Rave Edition)

techno // best thing she's a part of. The ANNA, Hawtin, and Tale of Us/AME remixes are pretty fire.
23Bicep
Isles

breaks/future garage // it's well done at the least. they got a bit hyped up but they worked hard for it. def well produced, nothing I'd return to heavily.
24The Armed
Ultrapop

post-hardcore/noise rock // interesting concept for sure, kinda needed cuz hardcore really had been getting stale. we'll see if this does anything more to help.
25Acemoma
A Future

breakbeats and more // solid creative sound they concocted this time around.
26Gatecreeper
An Unexpected Reality

death metal // stupid fun
27INVT
Prendida

electronic // you guys need to get on this group. they mix in latin electronic percussions/drum n bass/jungle/psychedelic/ambient/uk bass/dubstep and other genres in other releases INVT made this year alone. Miami represent.
28INVT and Nicholas G. Padilla
Mas Aya

electronic // read above.
