Tomorrow Morning
Pleasant enough, and the optimistic tone sets it apart from the rest of the Eels

Shootenanny!
This was basically an album of cast-offs prior to Blinking Lights, and it shows. It has
its moments, though - particularly Love of the Loveless, which for me ranks among

End Times

Hombre Lobo
Not the most consistent, but its highlights (Prizefighter, That Look You Gave That
Guy, Fresh Blood) really elevate it. This and End Times are more or less

Wonderful, Glorious
Rock solid, and deceptively catchy. Peach Blossom, Open My Present and the title
track have some of the most potent hooks E has ever produced. | | 6 |  | Eels
Daisies of the Galaxy
Houses some of E's finest songs, but for reasons I can't explain this one just seems
to miss a little spark. The contrast between light, poppy songs (I Like Birds, Mr E's
Beautiful Blues) and more reflective numbers (It's a Motherfucker, Selective
Memory) can make it pretty uneven, too. | | 5 |  | Eels
The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett
Classic downcast E in every sense, but it's made for his finest record since Blinking
Lights. Can't wait to hear these songs played live. | | 4 |  | Eels
Beautiful Freak
To me, this debut almost seems like a false start in the Eels catalogue. Sure, E had plenty of demons when it was recorded, but
the deaths of his mother and sister have cast a shadow over every album since, be it directly or otherwise. Anyway, there's a
bit of filler here and there, but the majority of Beautiful Freak is stellar - though I'm glad E moved on from its grungy sound as
quickly as he did. | | 3 |  | Eels
Souljacker
Probably the most sonically diverse Eels record, and for me the easiest to digest.

Blinking Lights & Other Revelations
It's drawn out and doesn't actually house that many standout moments, but as a
body of work Blinking Lights is absolutely magnificent. One of the few double albums
which never sounds bloated, and the redemptive tone of its second half is
absolutely glorious. | | 1 |  | Eels
Electro-Shock Blues
An absolute masterpiece, and one of my all-time favourites. Everything about this
record - its back story, E's lyrics, the sheer starkness of it all - makes it one of the
most harrowing emotional documents ever committed to tape. | |
